Publisher's summary

America has enemies - ruthless people that the police, the FBI, even the military can't stop. That's when the U.S. government calls on Will Robie, a stone-cold hitman who never questions orders and always nails his target.

But Will Robie may have just made the first - and last - mistake of his career....

It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable: He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.

Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a 14-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway - her parents were murdered, and her own life is in danger. Against all of his professional habits, Robie rescues her and finds he can't walk away. He needs to help her.

Even worse, the more Robie learns about the girl, the more he's convinced she is at the center of a vast cover-up, one that may explain her parents' deaths and stretch to unimaginable levels of power. Now, Robie may have to step out of the shadows in order to save this girl's life... and perhaps his own.

Killer

It was a fun listen. It was a bit of a stretch at times but it often is in this genre.

Highly enjoyable,

Fantastic job on this book. Sound effects added to the audio experience. The characters were well done and the storyline kept me listening. Great job.

Great book

Nararators were awesome... Story was great! The only thing I did not care for, At All, was the background noise/props.. It was sooo distracting! Thank goodness it was not through the entire book, however, at the beginning, I almost returned the book because of it. Thankfully I was able to tune it out. Please don't let there be this awful distraction in the next book. Like I said... Love Will Robie

The best Audible Title I have ever listened to!

What did you like about this audiobook?

Yes, intreging developed characters, lots of surprises

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

This I can't be specifiic but the end is captivating and totally surprising. The most memorable moment in the book without revealing too much is relationship of the strong women characters and the failed assignment which he could not do morally and because he did the right thing it weaves ir leads to a very profound and enjoyable adventure for the reader . Notice I am leaving out names as it would spoil the magnificance intique of this book.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

The intricate details and the two big surprises ant the conclusion, which cannot even be hinted at!

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Yes surprise at the end (The Party/Assination?) which made me feel for Robie over lost relationships?
Also the parting of the Girl and Robie, because it is one part that seems incomplete to me

Do you have any additional comments?

Please more Will Robie

fantastic!

I don't agree with many who said they didn't care for the sound effects. I loved them. I thought they were used sparingly and enhanced the performance at just the right moments. I also had no problem with Orlagh Cassidy's narration (although she IS Maisie Dobbs for me, in the off-the-charts phenomenal Maisie Dobbs series by Jacquelyn Winspear). I actually liked the addition of a female voice for the female characters and thought it was very smoothly done. However, the male narrator really shines in this one - it's his game and I thought he was perfect. Story was A+

Didn't need the dramatic music...

Would you listen to The Innocent: A Novel again? Why?

No. The background music was unnecessary, and the narrator made the hero sound like a crotchety old man.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It was a good story, but it didn't provide enough detail to help the reader come to the conclusion, it basically was summed up at the end by a character.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ?

Someone younger for him, she did a good job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

nope

Any additional comments?

Ditch the dramatic music and sound affects

A Perfect story

What made the experience of listening to The Innocent: A Novel the most enjoyable?

The narration was SO GOOD, especially with a male and female narrator. Of course, it helps when the writing is impeccable, as is with The Innocent and Baldacci. I couldn't turn it off - the plot moved well and each time the stakes were raised, I wanted to find out what happened next.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

YES! The crafting of the story was very much like Die Hard (or any other great plot creation). The stakes kept getting higher and higher as the story progressed, and there was little down time in the story. If you thought there was down time, you realized quickly that the little morsel you heard was important to the plot.

What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A great team of narration. They played off each other well, the narration was very natural and it was seamless.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Be careful who you work for...

Any additional comments?

I just downloaded the second book, and am excited to find a great new series to follow.
