Publisher's summary

There are stories no one knows. Hidden stories. I love those stories. And since I work in the National Archives, I find those stories for a living. Beecher White, a young archivist, spends his days working with the most important documents of the U.S. government. He has always been the keeper of other people's stories, never a part of the story himself...Until now.

When Clementine Kaye, Beecher's first childhood crush, shows up at the National Archives asking for his help tracking down her long-lost father, Beecher tries to impress her by showing her the secret vault where the president of the United States privately reviews classified documents. After they accidentally happen upon a priceless artifact - a 200-year-old dictionary that once belonged to George Washington, hidden underneath a desk chair, Beecher and Clementine find themselves suddenly entangled in a web of deception, conspiracy, and murder.

Soon a man is dead, and Beecher is on the run as he races to learn the truth behind this mysterious national treasure. His search will lead him to discover a coded and ingenious puzzle that conceals a disturbing secret from the founding of our nation. It is a secret, Beecher soon discovers, that some believe is worth killing for.

Gripping, fast-paced, and filled with the fascinating historical detail for which he is famous, The Inner Circle is a thrilling novel that once again proves Brad Meltzer as a brilliant author writing at the height of his craft.

You say you want conspiracy?

Meltzer delivers a great political conspiracy novel here with a little romance, a little back stabbing, a few crazy people and someone has something to hide type characters that come to life. The hero of this book is unlikely, the villain is somewhat predictable but the way the bit players come in and out of the story is great. I didn't really have the solution to this and the twists made the rethinking of the characters actions fun. A solid entertaining listen.

great story and narrative but needed editing

Loved the story and the narration. But, it just kind of drug on too much and could have benefited by some editing.

Absolutely great book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Inner Circle to be better than the print version?

I don't know because I have not read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Brad does such a good job at giving all the characters good parts I can't pick one.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott is one of my absolute favorite narrators. If it says narrated by Scott Brick enough said.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

This is the first book I have listen to Brad Meltzer. I would recommend this as an excellent place to start. I can't wait to listen to more of his work.

Not the same old premise

Would you try another book from Brad Meltzer and/or Scott Brick?

I would try another Meltzer. I already seek out books that Scott Brick narrates.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I liked the history/ archive part of the story. It had a good flow and I liked the characters. When summing things up towards the end it was a little confusing but, I just listened to that part again.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have heard him do Douglas Preston and some others. He was very good with this story.

Could you see The Inner Circle being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, I could see it a movie. Not sure on the players.

Any additional comments?

I got it on sale, was worth the 4.95.

Coulda, shoulda

Close to being a 5 star listen. Author just pushed the plot a little too far. Still it was a good listen and likely the start of a series
