Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

Loved it!

Great finish to the series! Enjoyed the way it was told and having listened instead of reading made it easier to follow since I waited so long after the 2nd book.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Wonderful!!! Excellent!!! Start reading immediately!! If you loved the first two, you will NOT be diappointed by this one. My only criticism is the presents of all the different Swedish names which makes it difficult to remember who's who.
Simon Vance continues to be the wonderful narrator!!!
Sad they'll be no more books by Stieg Larsson.

good ending to the trilogy

I have "read" both previous books and enjoyed them very much. This book was a bit more wordy -my husband always tells me "get to the point!!" when I tell him something - I found myself occasionally talking to this recording and telling it to "get to the point" - lots of background information - I found my mind wandering... But the story is great and Mr. Larsson tied it all together at the end, which I liked.

Too short a time

So Sorry Stieg Larsson died so young. I have truly enjoyed his books. I am sorry to have come to the end of this series.

Awesome

It held me from moment one until the end. Another great addition --but you knew that.

Ok, but not the best

After reading both Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Girl Who Played with Fire, I was pretty attached to Steig Larsson's characters, which is really what kept me going through this unecessarily long, and sometimes tedious book. I enjoyed it to a certain degree because of the way it continued the storyline, but if it hadn't been for the fantastic narration by Simon Vance, I probably would not have stuck it out.

Quirky conquers all

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend listening to this book because it lasts long enough. Have you ever been sad a really good book ended? With this trilogy, you can be Pippi for several days at least.

What other book might you compare The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest to and why?

The Hobbit or Gormenghast - the main character is intelligent yet flawed, and there are plenty of adventures

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The sound of Pippi's voice

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A Study in Perserverance
