In Paradise, nothing is what it seems....

Army Special Agent John Puller is the best there is. A combat veteran, Puller is the man the U.S. Army relies on to investigate the toughest crimes facing the nation. Now he has a new case - but this time, the crime is personal: His aunt has been found dead in Paradise, Florida.

A picture-perfect town on Florida's Gulf Coast, Paradise thrives on the wealthy tourists and retirees drawn to its gorgeous weather and beaches. The local police have ruled his aunt's death an unfortunate, tragic accident. But just before she died, she mailed a letter to Puller's father, telling him that beneath its beautiful veneer, Paradise is not all it seems to be.

What Puller finds convinces him that his aunt's death was no accident… and that the palm trees and sandy beaches of Paradise may hide a conspiracy so shocking that some will go to unthinkable lengths to make sure the truth is never revealed.

Good captivating book

Enjoyed the readers, enjoyed the story. A good read. Enjoyable and most interesting is that it had some classic spins

John Puller is a great character

I hadn't read any of Baldacci's books in a while and I had been missing out on a lot. Most of his stories are fantastic. This series is right up there with his best.

Puller is one of my favorite characters. This story is very engaging. I couldn't put this down. There are many characters and, as Puller's aunt says in her letter, things are not what they seem.

About the only thing that detracted from this audiobook is the incessant special effects. I find them very distracting and overly dramatic.

Good Story

Good characters and good story. Maybe a bit too long. I liked the General and Mecho characters. I really wanted Hooper to get his just desserts.

The way all audiobooks should sound

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Great story and great production. This is the new standard by which I judge all other audio book productions from now on. A man reading the male parts and a woman reading the female parts, so much less distracting than trying to listen to a man buttchering the sound of a female voice. Sound effects that immerse you right in the middle of the story, you really feel like you are out in the middle of a cold, stormy gulf in a small motorboat with a tropical storm howling around you.

What did you like best about this story?

Twist ending and exhilarating action throughout.

What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Having the book read by a man AND a woman was a huge change for the better. I've listened to a lot of audio books and I never liked to listen to male readers trying to do female voices but since most audiobook productions try to do it on the cheap, I always had to suffer through it. This publisher does it RIGHT! Great sound effects too!!

Great Book

It kept me listening for many enjoyable hours. It’s probably the best Baldacci book that I have ever read or listened to. The many chapters seemed unnecessary since the story flowed so well! Thanks for a great book.

Fantastic

I read this years ago and it was just as good as it was then. As many years as I have been reading Baldacci I am still always surprised by the final hook. I never figure it out ahead of time :)
