The third title in the John Puller series to follow Zero Day and The Forgotten. Military CID investigator, John Puller, has returned from his latest case in Florida to learn that his brother, Bobby, on death row at Leavenworth Military Prison for national security crimes, has escaped.
Preliminary investigations show that he may have had help in his breakout. Now he's on the run, and in disguise, and he's the military's number-one target. John Puller has a dilemma. Which comes first, loyalty to his country or to his brother? Bobby has state secrets that certain people will literally kill for. But blood is thicker than water, and the brothers are close although even John does not know for sure what Bobby really did for the government, nor if he's even guilty of his crimes. It becomes swiftly apparent, however, that Bobby's role was powerful and far-reaching. With the help of John's long-time friend and colleague, General Julie Carson, both brothers move closer to the truth from their opposing directions. And this case puts John Puller in a place he thought he'd never be, on the other side of the law, where even his skills as an investigator, and his strength as a fighter, might not be enough to save him. And his brother.

Not a genre I ever thought I would enjoy American military but his heroes are well written and extremely likeable. Good plots several twists and turns and inevitable red herrings. Can't wait have the next one ready to start.
Excellent story and the best of the Puller series. Well structured story and excellent ending.
A must listen for crime thrillers.
"Loved it- nail biting clever read"
This is a great book perfect for listening to on my way to and from work. Tense, great story with lots of twists and excitement. I just love John puller, what a character.
When the brothers met again
When his father recognised him
Just get this book you will not regret it I promise you'll love it.
"Male narrator difficult listening."
Enjoyed this but was overall seriously marred by male narrator's voice, it almost sounded as though he was drunk! particularly as the female was crystal clear.
If the same narrator pops up elsewhere it is unlikely I would purchase the book.
"Narration Not Great"
My first David Baldacci on Audible, didn't enjoy the narration. This may sound a little strange, but Ron McLarty sounds too much like he is reading the book, is a bit stilted and his characterisation is not great. Sound effects are also not necessary and are a bit rubbish.
Have always enjoyed reading David Baldacci, so no problems with the story
Haven't listened to any previous performances from these narrators, but have listened to a number of other books by different narrators/ authors and the performance (in my opinion) isn't as good.
Very well written and well structured, needless to say that I am more than happy to be looking forward to the next book.
Very original storyline intricate well thought out with a few surprises
My only criticism is that the narrator sometimes seems to be shouting or at least has a very loud Voice
The two readers male and female worked well but personally I didn't like the associated music and sound effects in some parts
Top marks for the plot
"Thrilling with great twists and turns"
This book has it all, a great story with real characters and enough twists and turns to make you sea sick.
One of the things I really like about David Balldaci's books is the plot is always different there is no 'it's a Camel Club book, so it must be about.... Or it's. John Puller book so the theme must be about x y or z. This is a fresh, exciting book and stands alone in the series.
It has to be when the Puller's get to the cottage, and find who the other 'baddie' is!
And round the next corner is......
A book that leaves me wanting more of John Puller.
"Best Puller book yet"
if you like the Puller books you will love this one. lots of things fall into place.
"Not the best of Baldacci"
More a collection of short stories than a cohesive storyline. Improbable plots and unlikely events.
Poor old Puller he was pushed from pillar to post
"Well worth 5 stars"
You will not be disappointed with this. It has everything you need if this is your genre.
Plenty of action, twists and turns to keep you involved in the supberbly written story.
The narrartion is top class adding weight to this audible production.
could not wait to finish.
Great acting from both cast kept me on the edge of my seat ..
