Publisher's summary

Ex-Baltimore cop turned special-ops shooter Joe Ledger is back in action.

In The Dragon Factory, Ledger and his team from the Department of Military Sciences square off against two separate groups of corrupt scientists. The beautiful but twisted Jakoby Twins are creating transgenic monsters and genetically enhanced mercenaries for sale to the highest bidder. Their father, who takes evil to an entirely new level, is using cutting-edge science to complete the Nazi master-race program.

Joe must elude the NSA who are gunning for him, fight his way past rogue Spetsnaz teams, and stop these madmen before the Extinction Clock runs out. And when the bloodbath claims one of his own, Joe Ledger declares total war on those people who would burn down the world in order to reshape it in their own dark image.

Take another thrill ride with Joe Ledger.

Critic reviews

“In Stoker-winner Maberry’s wild second Joe Ledger novel, Joe and his comrades from the Department of Military Science take on enough villains and their world-threatening plots to fill half a dozen ordinary thrillers.” ( Publishers Weekly)

Why are women always made to look like idiots?

Would you listen to The Dragon Factory again? Why?

Yes. It is full of action and anything that might deal with Nazi's and eugenics is my cup of tea.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dragon Factory?

I think it was when the "dogs" attacked in packs. Yikes!

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

His performances are always right on. He is a wonderful choice for Joe's adventures!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Of course, it was with the red headed "new men".

Any additional comments?

I was glad when Joe's new love died. She always had to make a speech instead of shoot which of course, either got her in trouble or shot. REALLY??? There had to be another way to continue with the story line then have her enter talking.

Non-Stop Action

Mutants, history, murder, extinction and more are all aspects of Joe Ledger's second adventure. Inter-department politics threaten to cripple the DMS (Department of Military Sciences), and Joe is sent on a mission to Colorado based on a tip. Things spiral out of control from there. Can Joe and the DMS stop the Dragon Factory before the Extinction Wave?

That's a brief overview of The Second Joe Ledger novel. I like this book a lot, it hits the gas and doesn't stop until the end. Joe gets put into some harrowing situations against some true abominations. It works for me in this crazy world Mr. Maberry creates. I like the characters, from the Jakoby's, Joe, Top, Bunny, Grace, Mr. Church etc.

There's a few things that keep the book from being a 5-star are the exposition on how eugenics is bad. We got it the first time. Nazi's, we know they're bad and it was a stretch to include them as they were. That was one plot line that went just a bit too far.

Ray Porter is aural gold when he delivers his performance in the Joe Ledger series. I really think he's a top notch narrator and everything we've heard from him has been stellar.

Great book

I wasn't sure if it was possible to be as good as the first but what a relief.

Porter & Maberry, perfect match!

I like Maberry's writing just fine. He's engaging and creative. For me, though, Ray Porter makes it phenomenal. His voice talent is unparalleled and I look forward to every endeavor he undertakes.

Slow start, strong finish!

I loved the first Joe Ledger novel and this one was just as good, if not better. It takes awhile for the whole story to come together, but once it does, it’s impossible to press pause.

Good series so far.

The plot line seemed pieced together a bit clumsily compared to Patient Zero, but it was still a very entertaining listen. Ray Porter is incredible and creates such distinctly individual characters. He could narrate the instruction manual for my refrigerator and I’d listen.

Great story and narrator or = A+ listen

Where does The Dragon Factory rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The whole series has been extremely addicting!!! The characters are great, narrator is superb (you get spoiled by this narrator as he's one of the best and its difficult to listen to mediocre narrators afterwards), and the story is interesting and fast enough to keep continual interest.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dragon Factory?

Don't want to spoil it, but it's a great book, great series

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The way he plays out the characters. He is one of the best narrators!!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Joe Ledger is a modern day super hero but personable at the same time. You wouldn't expect to become emotionally involved with a master killer, but he's one of those that get you. Great writing and narrating.
