Publisher's summary

Silence of the Lambs reborn in a gripping serial killer thriller.

Chestnut Hill is one of Philadelphia's most upscale neighborhoods. But in one gleaming home, in a teenager's lavish bedroom, a girl has been brutally murdered. The atrocity kicks off an investigation by police who connect the girl's murder to a bizarre string of increasingly disturbing murders.

A serial killer is loose—someone of unprecedented savagery.

As the city's panic rises, Teddy Mack, a civil attorney just out of law school, is forced by a partner at his new firm to defend the undefendable. But soon after, another girl goes missing. A girl who might still be alive. And Teddy discovers something the police never guessed. The serial killer has a secret. He's collecting something. Something twisted. Something horrific and vile.

To end the madman's reign, Teddy must enter his maze—a place of unimaginable terror where human demons emerge with a vengeance.

Lots of Twists and Turns

I listened to it a quarter faster, the narrator at regular speed lost momentum for me. Well written and like able characters. I think the characters actions were believable and I liked how logical and rational the main character was. All in all worth a credit.

Head's Up #9!

Today's price for this Audio Book is $3.95. For those who are interested in Whispersync For Voice, I recommend purchasing the Kindle version of this first for $2.99 and then the Audio Book is $1.99 for a total of $4.98 or only $1.03 more than the Audio Book alone.

Like seeing a "homerun" on the radio

This is why I react like a "Pavlov's dog" to Robert Ellis' name. McCance got on my nerves from the first word. He stayed there throughout setting the tone that drew me at a perfect pace. My thanks to both of you. A great, light listen. A "two run homer."

Bizarre narration and plot make this an audictive listen

Robert Ellis pens a most unique mystery and the vocal artistry of Jim McCance is phenomenal! Intriguing from the very beginning, it grabbed my attention and never let go. Complex and eerie as well, it is so worth a credit. I was lucky enough to get “The Dead Room” for $5 during an Audible sale. If you like peculiar and quirky people and sensational and suspenseful plots and subplots, this one is for you. Note: One minor complaint: The book could have been been cut by a couple of hours.

Holy plot twist, Batman!

Great characters and an even better storyline! Best part was the unexpected twist. I would definitely recommend this for a mystery-thriller enthusiast

Don't understand the high reviews

This book was just okay for me. As an avid reader and listener of mysteries and thrillers, this story was not that interesting, just another psycho maniacal serial killer. I did find myself wondering more than once if I'd enjoy the story more in print, since the narrator was melodramatic and in no way captivating. There are so many better books out there and you certainly can't tell from the ratings on this one.

Great Mystery With A Great Ending

This is a mystery revolving around a deranged serial killer, but really exposing an evil, politically driven prosecutor and the unethical legal community involved in the case. It is a complicated and far fetched story of murder, ambition, betrayal and justice. But as we all know, often truth is stranger than fiction, so I am willing to overlook elements that required me to suspend belief.

Teddy Mack is a civil attorney with no experience in criminal law. He is drawn into a murder case by his mentor who owes the family of the accused a huge debt. Through no fault of his own, the case quickly becomes public as it appears it is really about a serial killer. Teddy soon realizes he's being used as a pawn.

Much like any good conspiracy, there are a number of villains thwarting Teddy's investigation at every turn. But like every exceptional conspiracy novel, (Count of Monte Cristo being the best example)we see that everyone and every issue involved is dealt with properly.

While I hated the narration early on and never grew to like it, it's fair to say it did not ruin the experience.

I loved this book!

Great serial killer novel!

The Dead Room is a marvelous crime and legal thriller. The protagonist is a civil attorney, and his is virtually the only decent person in the book. This novel is about the case of a gruesome serial killer and about corruption in the Philadelphia prosecutors office and court system. This is a truly extraordinary 5 star thriller. The narration was disappointing, but I did become accustomed to it. The follow up book to The Dead Room is City of Fire which is a very good thriller, but The Dead Room is better.
