Jude's life has been turned upside-down thanks her new man, Piers Targett, who's keen to get her involved in his hobby – or obsession – of Real Tennis. But when one of Piers' friends dies on the court in suspicious circumstances, Jude finds herself caught up in the police investigation. Meanwhile, Jude's neighbour Carole is trying to identify the human remains known locally as the “Lady in the Lake”.
As the two investigations become intertwined, Carole and Jude's efforts to find the truth look set to lead to more murders.

A long time reader and listener - I just can't get enough of Audible! (Especially mysteries and Buddhist texts and history and ...etc!
I do love Brett's whole Fethering series with Carole and Jude, two retired/ semi-retired middle-aged divorced women with wildly different characters, fitting together so well to solve murders in and around their small town of Fethering.
This book was just as enjoyable for me as the earlier books, even though I know some reviewers did not like that Carole and Jude worked on separate mysteries. But - they did overlap and interact and try to bring each other up to speed regularly. Yes, we also saw a different side to Jude, and I suppose Brett wants to show the different dimensions of his long-term characters. So now we know the mysterious and usually-calm, new-agey Jude a little more intimately, I'm certain she will be back to her old self in the next installments.
I really enjoyed this listen - so comforting and, well, cozy!
I do enjoy Carol & Jude so much. Simon narrates wonderfully!
Intriguing plot. I learned about Real tennis. Much fun!
"What a treat..."
This is a gentle book, but intriguing enough to keep the listener's attention. And beautifully read by the author - lots of voices very convincingly done. I have added another title to my wish list to download another time.
"Classic Simon Brett"
A bit slow to start but I enjoyed it more as it evolved. Overall a good story.
"Not the best but still enjoyable"
Simon Brett reads his books to perfection and the audio versions are always the best for this reason.
I love the Feathering books but this story was not the best. Too many coincidences and Carole Seddon and Jude don't work together and it is the team that is great. I still recommend that you read it and lets hope he is back on form for the next one.
He is the tops at reading and this one is no different.
Lovely to revisit Feathering and old friends
"Love this series"
The Carol and Jude series of books are all great, I have read and listened to them all. I prefer to listen as I really enjoy Simon Brett's performance. He really knows his characters well hence they stay within their personalities.
Can only hope that Carol and Jude run across many more dead bodies.
How I look forward to a new Fethering mystery! They are easy, comfortable and fun, with great characters and silly plots. I find that I can completely lose myself in the escapades of Jude and Carol. This was not one of the best, with the two amateur sleuths going off in different directions- they definitely work better together! However Brett's superb narration keeps it going and it's definitely worth a listen
I do so enjoy Simon Brett's stories. Mostly I think for the brilliant way he reads them! Acting out each character and making them all come to light. I did enjoy this tale too, but not as much as the other Carole and Jude ones. Just too many coincidences. But fun.
Simon Brett keeps light, formulaic crime at a high standard. Jude and Carole are believable- ladies in their prime having a go!
