Publisher's summary

The US Speaker of the House is assassinated in a terrifyingly precise execution in the heart of Washington, DC. In a quieter corner of the nation's capital, the rare book room of the Library of Congress, a reclusive, wealthy scholar drops dead under mysterious circumstances that leave no clues. Following on the heels of the natural death of the Speaker of the House, the city and the nation begin to tremble. In California, a beautiful but capable woman is planning and executing one of the most brilliant cons on record.

All the while, "Oliver Stone" and his quirky Camel Club stand by and observe as the genius of their collective perspective begins to connect the dots between these seemingly disparate events - and they realize they must act, and act quickly, before their country falls victim to a silent yet bloody coup.

Multiple intersecting plots!

If you are looking for a book that isn't formulaic, this is it. The plot(s) are truly original. Yes, there is more than one plot and they intersect in a unique and fun way that really engaged me once I got past the first couple of chapters. It did take me a little while to get completely reeled in. At times I wondered where the book was going but when everyting fell together it just made perfect sense. Love when I get to the end of the book and feel that the time I invested in listening was worthwhile. This was one of those books that has a truly satisfying ending, wraps up just enough of the loose ends, leaving a couple unwrapped so you know there will be another book to follow. For maximum enjoyment, I recommend that you listen to Baldacci's book "The Camel Club" before you listen to "The Collectors". "The Collectors" appears to be the second book in what will be a great series involving the quirky Camel Club. Hopefully the 3rd book will be out soon.

Needs new audio Director

The story is good. I do like how it plays several differnt lines at one time. But it is very hard to get past the poor attempt to be a dramatization vs a litteral reading. This was one of the worst "to audio" translations.

Awful narration

The story was probably pretty good, but the narration...UGH! Buy the paperback.

Get a new narrator

I like the Baldacci books and have listed to 2 others on Audible, but the narrator on this one is not good at all. The inflections are off, and it is just distracting. It is hard to enjoy the story when the narration is so poor. I should have listened to the sample before choosing. If I had, I would have downloaded it to my Kindle instead.

Slow start, good finish.

Another good book with the Camel Club. My only problem is it has so many characters that it is sometimes hard to follow.

I don't care for these narrators.

The first book in the series had a much better set of narrators than this one.

Good but I like the other series better

I like the books once they get going but trying to following the multi stories in the beginning can be a bit confusing. I still enjoyed them but think I like some of the other Baldacci series better

The Collectors

book is great, however the three voice narration was terrible, no chemistry what so ever, who ever thought this was a good idea was an idiot. i couldnt listen to it all, i had to just rent it from my library and read it.

Performance was a little odd, but great story

Any additional comments?

At first the multiple narrators made the story strange and much different than just a normal book. By the middle of it I found the multiple narrators seamless and i did up enjoying it. I also liked this book more than the first. It brought multiple stories and twisted it into one great one. Since we already had a good bit of character development in the first book in the series, it was much easier to understand and get root for the characters.
