Publisher's summary

Detective Harry Bosch and his new partner investigate a recent murder where the trigger was pulled nine years earlier.

In the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, not many murder victims die almost a decade after the crime. So when a man succumbs to complications from being shot by a stray bullet nine years earlier, Bosch catches a case in which the body is still fresh, but all other evidence is virtually nonexistent.

Now Bosch and rookie Detective Lucia Soto are tasked with solving what turns out to be a highly charged, politically sensitive case. Beginning with the bullet that's been lodged for years in the victim's spine, they must pull new leads from years-old information, which soon reveal that this shooting may have been anything but random.

In this gripping new novel, Michael Connelly shows once again why Harry Bosch is "one of the greats of crime fiction" (New York Daily News).

Critic reviews

"Connelly proves again that neither he nor Bosch has lost his touch." (Christian DuChateau, CNN)

"Bosch has become one of the most popular and enduring figures in American crime fiction." (Kevin Nance, Chicago Tribune)

"Bosch has become Mr. Connelly's most durable, well-entrenched creation." (Janet Maslin, New York Times)

"As the new voice of Harry Bosch in this nineteenth volume of the series, Titus Welliver brings some formidable skills to the narration. His deep, resonant voice fits the atmosphere and the vocalization of Bosch, and his pacing makes the story accessible even for new listeners. A slightly raised pitch makes the female voices pleasant and believable, as do the subtle Mexican accents he gives several characters." (AudioFile)

well done book without filler

I liked the intricacies of the story and the fact that f--k was not used every other word. You could actually see how this story could really happen. It wasn't preposterous like so many are. Narrator could have been a little better.

Harry Bosch is still the best

Where does The Burning Room rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

All of the Harry Bosch series are at the top of my list and the Burning Room was excellent. Harry Bosch just becomes more real with each book. He is aging but he is still awesome

Have you listened to any of Titus Welliver’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my 1st Titus Welliver's performance that I have listened to. I enjoyed it because he is playing the character for the series.
He is not Len Cariou but he is good.

Any additional comments?

I hope there are many more Harry Bosch books before he retires. Michael Connelly makes his characters so real. Maybe he could do books where Bosch is remembering cases and go back in time. Keep them coming. they are great.

Fastasic Listen!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Burning Room to be better than the print version?

If you love Harry Bosch then you will love listening to the Burning Room, narrated by Titus Welliver. Titus is definitely Harry just like in the new series and take a listen because you will feel like you are there along side of Harry the entire ride.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Like all of Michael Connelly books, the story line has you hooked from the first chapter. I have never read or heard a MC book I haven't liked.

What does Titus Welliver bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Titus is Harry. The voice is way cool!

Titus Welliver Rocks the story as Bosch -

Would you consider the audio edition of The Burning Room to be better than the print version?

Absolutely! Titus Welliver gives a grand performance (not all TV/movie actors do on audible). I will only follow Harry Bosch if Titus is reading him. That is now the detective's voice to me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Burning Room?

Harry discovering his partner copying pages from an old murder book, having lied about her location only seconds before. The scene moves from Harry noticing her purse, to calling and hearing her phone in the distance, to sneaking into the deep of the records room, the text had me holding my breath in the end.

What about Titus Welliver’s performance did you like?

Titus has the perfect voice for a gritty and long-experienced detective. He didn't fake a girlie voice for the female characters and I liked that because it made me feel like I was riding along with Harry himself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Everybody counts or nobody counts.

Any additional comments?

This was a great communion of a talented writer and vibrant voice. Two stories wound together, which felt more like real life, where other stuff gets in the way and you can't always have single focus.

good but not best

Would you listen to The Burning Room again? Why?

No. I don't repeat.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both are good.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are no standout scenes. Connelly's forte is continuity.

Any additional comments?

The ending is lame.

Disappointed

I had high hopes for this since Titus Welliver plays the lead in the Amazon series.

Good actor, not much of a reader.

Titus Welliver does a fine job

Would you listen to The Burning Room again? Why?

When I was ready to move on to this book, I read the reviews on Audible. There were so many negative reviews about Titus Welliver's reading that I decided not to buy the book, and instead, started reading Harry Reacher novels. Finding those books a tad too graphic and violent, I decided to go back to Bosch. Much to my surprise, I found Titus Welliver's interpretation quite good. I've been listening to audiobooks for 30 years, and I've listened to many annoying readers whose voices make you want to run your fingernails on a blackboard as a respite. Welliver's voice is pleasant, his accents are good, and if you picture him as Bosch when he's reading those parts, it adds to the whole gestalt.
