INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER—THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

Defense attorney Mickey Haller and Detective Harry Bosch must either work together or die as they investigate a Hollywood lawyer's murder in this "epic page-turner" (Library Journal).

Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

Enter Harry Bosch. Determined to find Vincent's killer, he is not opposed to using Haller as bait. But as danger mounts and the stakes rise, these two loners realize their only choice is to work together.

Critic reviews

"The Brass Verdict has the sneaky metabolism of any Connelly book. It starts slowly, moves calmly, hides pertinent bits of information in plain sight and then abruptly ratchets up its energy for the denouement....In the midst of this new story, Mickey rebounds with a vengeance....Like Harry Bosch's mojo, Mickey Haller's is liable to work well for a long time."—Janet Maslin, New York Times
"Connelly is firing on all cylinders in this epic page-turner. The intriguing story line, the chance to view Bosch from another perspective, and Haller's reappearance as a main character add up to a fantastic read. One of the best thrillers of the year."—Jeff Ayers, Library Journal
"The answer to every Connelly fan's dream: Hieronymus Bosch meets the Lincoln Lawyer....By turns wary, competitive, complementary, cooperative and mutually predatory....Connelly brings his two sleuths together in a way that honors them both"—Kirkus Reviews

Support for Peter Giles

I listened to this novel following The Lincoln Lawyer and nearly missed it due to the continual complaints about the narrator. I listened to a preview and found nothing offensive, so I downloaded it and hoped for the best. I felt this novel moved a bit slower than Lincoln Lawyer, I missed some of the twists and turns and intrigue that made the Lincoln Lawyer a real "page-turner". But it was worth the credit and Michael Connelly has a nice way of throwing in surprises that you don't see coming. I really don't understand the complaints about Peter Giles. After the first few minutes, I had forgotten what the previous guy sounded like and found none of the " stilted / wrong emphasis / difficult to follow " issues mentioned by others. I think he did a great job and feel his critiques were un-founded and 'over the top'. Just my opinion obviously, but I suggest you don't let the idea of poor narration dissuade you from this story. I'm glad I didn't.

One of the best Lincoln Lawyer stories yet

Plenty of action and suspense page after page. The narrator is perfect with emotional actions in all the right situations. The end of this one took me by surprise. I missed the clues but then I did feel the judge was aware of your situation. Grab this novel when you see it on the shelf. You won’t be disappointed.

Really enjoy this ‘

This may be the best of the
series for me. I usually figure out most of the plot twists but either I’m too old or this just kept me guessing until the very end.

More Lincoln Lawyer

If you are a fan of this author, you will recognize the Lincoln Lawyer main character. Harry Bosch is in this story but the main character is the lawyer. This is an entertaining murder/mystery story told from the point of the vew of the defense lawyer. There is some detail provided in how defense lawyers prepare their case, chose jurors and chose when and how to present evidence. The story gets a bit confusing at the end where the relationship between the lawyer and Harry Bosch is exposed but doesn't seem to do anything with it. If you are a Michael Connelly fan, you will will no doubt like this book.

And now, something completely different.

A painter can create a two-dimensional painting that people admire and talk about for 500 years. And the creative mind of this author can take you on a journey you didn't expect and will always remember. And like the famous painting, I think this series of books will stand the test of time and be enjoyed and appreciated. I will just warn you never be complacent, there is a trap door in nearly every chapter.

Good plot

I like how the author continues to develop the character. The twist in the end was good, just when you think you know the direction the story is going, the author throws something else at you

Mickey Haller Is My Favorite Mystery Character

I've got to admit that I don't usually like murder mysteries, but I do like legal thrillers because if written well they test one's intellect. I loved Lincoln Lawyer, and when this title became available I gobbled it up. I was not sorry. Mickey Haller is the perfect companion to Connelly's Harry Bosch - like one of my unexpected discoveries in the world of food couplings, black pepper and chocolate. They are unique protagonists, but come together beautifully creating a savory, thought-provoking mystery which is easily understood audibly, and I imagine would be just as good when being read by eye. I detest novels with too much gory detail, too much blood, too much violence. The story in The Brass Verdict revolves around an ugly crime, but is done in a way which is acceptable to me.

All in all, I give this book a solid four-star rating and recommend it to you.
