Publisher's summary

Brad Meltzer - author of the number-one New York Times best seller The Book of Fate - returns with his most thrilling and emotionally powerful novel to date.

In Chapter Four of the Bible, Cain kills Abel. It is the world's most famous murder. But the Bible is silent about one key detail: the weapon Cain used to kill his brother. That weapon is still lost to history.

In 1932, Mitchell Siegel was killed by three gunshots to his chest. While mourning, his son dreamed of a bulletproof man and created the world's greatest hero: Superman. And like Cain's murder weapon, the gun used in this unsolved murder has never been found.

Until now.

Today in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Cal Harper comes face-to-face with his family's greatest secret: his long-lost father, who's been shot with a gun that traces back to Mitchell Siegel's 1932 murder. But before Cal can ask a single question, he and his father are attacked by a ruthless killer tattooed with the anicent markings of Cain. And so begins the chase for the world's first murder weapon.

What does Cain, history's greatest villain, have to do with Superman, the world's greatest hero? And what do two murders, committed thousands of years apart, have in common? This is the mystery at the heart of Brad Meltzer's riveting and utterly intriguing new thriller.

Superman

It's a long book but overall a pretty good and suspenseful story. You never know what is going to happen next.

Early Work Show Promise of the Author

I have read and enjoyed many of Brad Meltzer's books. On a lark, knowing that it was an early work, I added it to my Audible account. I continued reading the often confusing plot line and underdeveloped characters because as a former teacher of literature, I love it when I see possibility in an artist. While I will sign up for the pre-order of Mr. Meltzer's new release, I will also remove a still earlier work of his from my cart. In my humble estimation, early work needs to be re-worked if it is to be re-released. After all both skillfully written work and early attempts both carry the signature of the author. The narration of Scott Brick was outstanding, as always.

Love a good story?

I do love a good story, and Meltzer is a wonderful story teller. I didn't discover Meltzer until his more recent forays into the past in Lost History on cable. I'm glad I did. Meltzer's style of combining history & fiction in driving "Who-Done-It" storytelling is both engaging and thought provoking. A great romp!

Very Intriguing Story

I wasn't sure when I first started listening that I would be able to read this book, as it starts out sort of violent. But, as the story progressed, I understood and was amazed at the creativity of Brad Meltzer and how he wove Biblical and secular history together. Very well written and Scott Brick did a great job with the narration! Great read!

This was such a fun book

I heard about this book on the Glenn Beck program so I thought that I would check it out. It was really really good as long as you are not expecting a Da Vinci code. It is a little slow to get started but once it does it is a really fun read.

Original and imaginative!

This book was fabulous in every respect. Scott Brick did a wonderful job of bringing this story to life. While this is a work of fiction, much of the information presented is based in fact. Brad Meltzer definitely researched this topic well! I found myself googling this fact or that fact.....this story was interesting and never dragged.

Definitely worth the time!

great idea, poor ending

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook a lot. But why give an original idea (it made me want to know how much of the superman history is real) such a clich? ending?

Glad I read/heard The Book of Lies

Would you listen to The Book of Lies again? Why?

Yes, just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Book of Lies?

When the Prophet was revealed...I was completely off base when this happened.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first experience with Scott's narrative, His voice was very spellbinding and easily understood.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Not sure, but it should be a movie...I love Brad's writing.

Any additional comments?

No, ready for another book to listen to while I work. It is so much better than music.

A top notch mystery.

This is the first book that I have listened that was written by this author. It seemed as if a lot of research was done to make this story seem real.
