When a close colleague is brutally attacked, Inspector John Rebus is drawn into a case involving a hotel fire, an unidentified body, and a long forgotten night of terror and murder. Pursued by dangerous ghosts and tormented by the coded secrets of his colleague's notebook, Rebus must piece together the most complex and confusing of jigsaws. But not everyone wants the puzzle solved - perhaps not even Rebus himself.

I am a from Denmark and my interests are wide spread. Scary stories, Crime stories, Sci-fi, and more, you name it. One of my greater interests is historical fiction, and my favorite author are Jeff Shaara.
I think it is a great book, and I like Ian Rankin very much. Bit the narrator has a very clear accent, so if you a not scottish, it can be hard to understand the narration at times.
"Well worth a listen"
As always excellent, really enjoy the Rebus books. Well read and great to run to! Can get lost in the story whilst the miles go by!
"Not a bad read"
I found the book OK to listen to, not one of the more gripping I have read. Narration was fine.
"Good Story - shame about some pronounication"
Gritty Determined Shady
Most Rebus novels are similar as Rebus's character is somewhat DARK. Despite his dark side Rebus always seems to be on the side of the angels. Rankin makes us feel that we are on Rebus's side.
Rebus's visit to the Organ Grinder always makes me smile. Nothing about the scene is what one might expect.
The description of the blind man moving around his home.
