Publisher's summary

A PANDEMIC 70,000 YEARS IN THE MAKING WILL CHANGE HUMANITY...FOREVER.

In Marbella, Spain, Dr. Kate Warner awakens to a horrifying reality: the human race stands on the brink of extinction. A pandemic unlike any before it has swept the globe. Nearly a billion people are dead--and those the Atlantis Plague doesn't kill, it transforms at the genetic level. A few rapidly evolve. The remainder devolve.

As the world slips into chaos, radical solutions emerge. Industrialized nations offer a miracle drug, Orchid, which they mass produce and distribute to refugee camps around the world. But Orchid is merely a way to buy time. It treats the symptoms of the plague but never actually cures the disease.

Immari International offers a different approach: do nothing. Let the plague run its course. The Immari envision a world populated by the genetically superior survivors--a new human race, ready to fulfill its destiny.

With control of the world population hanging in the balance, the Orchid Alliance and the Immari descend into open warfare. Now humanity's last hope is to find a cure, and Kate alone holds the key to unraveling the mystery surrounding the Atlantis Plague. The answer may lie in understanding pivotal events in human history--events when the human genome mysteriously changed. Kate's journey takes her across the barren wastelands of Europe and northern Africa, but it's her research into the past that takes her where she never expected to go. She soon discovers that the history of human evolution is not what it seems--and setting it right may require a sacrifice she never imagined.

Just ok

The science is the only really interesting part of this book. The plot twists are shoehorned in to the point it's almost unbearable.

Fun and fantastic adventure!

What a fun and exciting sequel to this series! The story reads more like a screen play, easy to see how this will hopefully be turned into a great movie franchise one day. Great narrator too! Enjoyed listening to him act out each character and his consistency!

All Seems Hopeless

This is the second book in this series and is not quite as good as the first. In the book, the listener learns a modern day pandemic is actually a recurrence of a prior epidemic (from 1918), but more inclusive and far more dangerous. Kate learns a great deal more about her connection to Atlantis and begin work on her connections to the Atlantis Gene. Unfortunately, she finds that others know of the connection to the gene and have plans for using it to "cleanse" the human race. Only Kate, working beside David, a man who unexpectedly had joined her in her quest to preserve humanity, can uncover the evil plot to eliminate those who are not "fit" humans in order to make the world's population a homogeneous race. She also learns how Damien has traveled in and out of her life as he leads a quest for him and other "superior" people to rule the world. Unfortunately, the plague is moving much faster than the "cure," and humans may be headed for extinction.

really great sci fi

I've very much enjoyed this series. It may not be the fastest paced series out there, or the most believable, but it's still something different and quite enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

aliens

it is very interesting to conjure up the idea that an outer space life form can determine the earthly human progression.

Intriguing and suspenseful

This is one that requires your undivided attention, or you will miss important key points. A lot is revealed in this book and the pieces start falling into place. Hard to put down!
