John Grisham takes you back to where it all began...

John Grisham's A Time to Kill is one of the most popular novels of our time. Now we return to that famous courthouse in Clanton as Jake Brigance once again finds himself embroiled in a fiercely controversial trial - a trial that will expose old racial tensions and force Ford County to confront its tortured history.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier.

The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly? And what does it all have to do with a piece of land once known as Sycamore Row?

In Sycamore Row, John Grisham returns to the setting and the compelling characters that first established him as America's favorite storyteller. Here, in his most assured and thrilling novel yet, is a powerful testament to the fact that Grisham remains the master of the legal thriller, nearly 25 years after the publication of A Time to Kill.

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Excellent

I enjoyed this read and could not wait to pick up where I left off - HOWEVER the ending was disappointing because through out the entire book , Jake was committed to following the Wills instructions. Won't get into the end because it would give it away but not what I was hoping for!

Long. Grisham for sure. Rambling but good.

Tough to get all the variants of a similar accent but narrator did well. Not used to 20 hour books and prefer more action but this is Grisham and he's a good storyteller so given the patience it works out ok.

OUTSTANDING SEQUEL

If you could sum up Sycamore Row in three words, what would they be?

Intriguing, Riveting, Must-read

What did you like best about this story?

The thing I liked best about this book, was the fact that it was a sequel to A Time To Kill.

Which character – as performed by Michael Beck – was your favorite?

Jake Brigance - Michael Beck made him believable and sounded like Matthew McConaughy from the movie.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The video made by Ansel Hubbard and his reaction to the events over 50 years later.

Any additional comments?

I REALLY HOPE there will be a movie.......

Another great by John Grisham

This book will bring you right back to A Time to Kill, in fact it referenced it so much, as soon as I was done with the book I had to watch the movie. This is a lawyer story true, but it is a good human story. And brings you back to the history of old south, and sucks you in.
It was a great narrator, and good characters. The story was fabulous. A continuous listen.

Another hit!

How far would you be willing to go to right a wrong? That is the focus of this novel. Grisham has, once again, hit it out of the park with Sycamore Row. This is such a well thought out book, and told in such a comforting way. Grisham books, to me, are like sitting on a country porch on a summer evening. Just so warm and inviting. This novel is only made better by the narration of Michael Beck. This man is fantastic, and THE VOICE of Grisham's books, IMO. I would love for all of the Grisham books read by others to be redone with Beck reading them. Even the Frank Muller reads, and he is one of my favorite narrators. Overall, just an amazing experience. Loved every minute of it.

Great Story

John Grisham a gripping storey teller has proven again that the court room is his forte , you don't want to pass on this book. If you have not read previous Grisham novels you should , The Firm, The Pelican Brief, A Time to Kill (1989) with trial lawyer Jake Brigance.
The return of Jake Brigance fighting against the hostility, hatred , discrimination , violence and ignorance of the south was very emotional and truthfully , the way it was.
You are totally involved from beginning to end and hard to stop listening with great characters and the narration by Michael Beck is believable.
There should be a special five + or six star .
