Publisher's summary

Audie Award Finalist, Thriller/Suspense, 2014

For 25 years, Robert Crais has written extraordinary novels of crime and suspense. He is "a master of crime fiction" (Associated Press); "his novels get better with every new book" (Portland Oregonian); "Crais is hands-down the world’s greatest crime writer" (The Huffington Post).

But in Suspect, he may have written his most remarkable novel of all.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner.

Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

They are each other’s last chance. He was a young cop on the rise; she was bred to guard and protect. Now they are shunned and shunted to the side. They are suspect. And together they will set out to investigate the one case that no one wants them to touch: the identity of the men who murdered Stephanie.

Nine months and sixteen days later, they remained free. They were still out there.

What they begin to find is nothing like what Scott has been told, and where it will lead them will take them both through the darkest moments of their own personal hells. Whether they will make it out again, no one can say.

Thrilling, emotional, intense, with some of the best characters and well-crafted writing in all of crime fiction, Suspect is further proof that "Crais just keeps getting better" (Publishers Weekly).

Great Book. True Story of Loyalty

Would you listen to Suspect again? Why?

Absolutely, Its just a great story. Anyone who has had or has a dog will instantly be hooked by the Loyalty and companionship in suspect. Plus its a very good thriller. Well written, good Character development and riveting story line.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maggie, the Dog. She is furiously loyal and she is paired with Scott of the LAPD who is "not a dog person". They both bring out the best in each other through out the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Loyalty, Commitment, Justice

Absolutely Brilliant

Im not yet finished 'Suspect', by Robert Crais yet feel so strongly about the way it has touched me that I had to write this review.
I'm a long time Audible listener, with over 700 titles in my library and this is the first review Ive written, Im not saying this is the best book Ive listened to, but is the first one in a long time that Ive really wanted to share with others..
Whether you will feel the same way about this book I dont know, however, if you are at all human, I seriously doubt you can listen to Robert Crais 'Suspect', without wishing you had a friendship half as solid as the two main characters in this book.

Robert Crais, thank you for 8 hours of great listening, the only complaint I have about this book is that it will be over way too soon.

Audible listeners, do yourself a favour, dont pass this one by. One credit you will never regret

Good read

If you could sum up Suspect in three words, what would they be?

Being a dog lover I enjoyed hearing the training dogs go through. The story was just ok since I'm not a big fan of how police use canine assistance.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really.

Any additional comments?

Not enough of it stayed with me to have much to say. My final thoughts were it was a little sappy.

Refreshing perspective

This was a totally different approach to the mystery type storyline and I found that I was totally captivated. Nice and unexpected change.

Dog lovers beware. You will cry.

This book was deeply emotional for me. It is an homage to true working dogs around the world. Shows the connection between dog and owner. Great read.

A Winner

What made the experience of listening to Suspect the most enjoyable?

Such a great story of how these awesome dogs give all they are to their partners You could gush a long time about them but this story will show you from the inside how incredible they are when teamed with their Partners. Mr.Crais' understanding of the people who work with these animals and how they become a real team in heart as well as their amazing accomplishments makes this book a must have.

Would you listen to another book narrated by MacLeod Andrews?

Yes, It was well done.

Any additional comments?

Wonderful story!!

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I was so sad for it to end. I wish that the Scott - Maggie duo could be made into a series. I know that I've really enjoyed a book when my thoughts dwell on it for days or weeks after. This book did that for me.

I am fairly new to this genre, but have recently become hooked. This book came up on the Daily Deal so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The story intertwined a heartwarming story of love, trust and healing, but it was also a darn good mystery/thriller. There was lots of excitement to keep the story moving. While I though I'd enjoy the mystery part of the story more, I found myself looking forward to those scenes that developed the relationship between Scott and Maggie. I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. I will definitely re-read it.

Couldn’t put it down!

This was a great read. A nice flow of excitement throughout, it was tough to put this one down. Performance is spot on, and the narrative is very well written. This won’t be my last Robert Crais!
