Publisher's summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is a very powerful wizard and a dedicated private eye. He is also a wise cracking trouble magnet. Fueled by a tempest of guilt, sleep deprivation, malnutrition, bad temper and frankly awful personal grooming. Harry is hurtling toward oblivion. According to Harry that is nobody's business but his own.

The Winter Queen of Faerie manipulates him into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

Just Awesome!

What did you love best about Summer Knight?

Excellent story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harry cuz he's Harry

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

The further along in the series James gets, the better he is. I can tell what character is talking by the change in his voice and I love the way he laughs and sighs and makes the noises instead of just reading it. OUTSTANDING performance!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

lots of laughing, I'll never admit to tearing up.

Any additional comments?

I've read all of this series over the years and now I travel a lot, so gave the audio books a try. What an excellent way to pass the time as Im driving. The stories feel renewed.

Best Dresden book yet!

I have had to work hard to like this series. I love Butcher's Alera Codex series, but this series has been slow to grab my interest. However, this book finally has won me over. We learn about Harry's past. We see inside a wizard meeting and learn that they can be good, bad, or very petty. We see Harry's friends supporting him, even when he does his best to push them away. I enjoyed learning more about fairies in Dresden's world. I enjoyed all the creatures and their stories. Marsden does a fabulous job with the voices of Toot Toot and his compatriots. They made me laugh like crazy and I have a strong craving for pizza right now! This is something I could not say about the first three stories. Not much to laugh about in the first three books.

Most importantly, the growth of the characters in this book have guaranteed that I will be reading the next book in this series by tomorrow.

Ghouls, Ogres, Fairies, and Vampires Oh My!

What other book might you compare Summer Knight to and why?

Butcher's love for the Chronicles of Amber really shows in this episode of the Dresden Files. Of all his Dresden novels, this one comes the closest to high fantasy rather than a fantasy horror blend. As Harry moves through the Never-Never one is reminded of the Amberites walking through shadows, being waylaid by all kinds of magical beings. And Harry really is a Corwin-like trickster-hero, pulling solutions to the impossible situations he finds himself in out of nowhere.

Any additional comments?

When I read these books in print, Summer Knight was my least favorite. Hearing Masters read it really changed my opinion of the book. He makes it come alive.

great fun and excitement - ready for #5

I really enjoyed this book, much more than volumes 1-3 (which I really enjoyed too). the narrator is excellent and gets me completely involved in this urban fantasy.
