Publisher's summary

In December 2001, CIA paramilitary operative Matt Garrett is mysteriously pulled from Pakistan as he closes in for the kill of Al Qaeda senior leadership and is reassigned to a low-profile mission in the Philippines. But as he sifts through the wreckage of a downed U.S. C-130 cargo plane in the tangled jungle, he finds a dead U.S. Special Forces paratrooper who is not supposed to be there. Matt is quickly thrown into a contest of wits and resiliency in the uncharted rainforests of Mindanao.

Manipulated by the secret plans of a powerful quartet of upper-echelon Washington, D.C., defense politicos, who call themselves the Rolling Stones, Matt and his Army captain brother Zach Garrett establish their bona fides as true patriots on the cutting edge of freedom. They struggle for survival against the rising tide of Islamic extremism and the reemergence of the Empire of the Sun in the ever-expanding Global War on Terror.

In the stunning prequel to his award-winning novel Rogue Threat, A. J. Tata creates an uncanny sense of presence on and off the battlefield in Sudden Threat, a novel rife with conspiracy, diplomatic double-talk, betrayal, loyalty, valor and honor.

The narrator's female voice...

The narrator's females voice sounds like Carol Channing with a head cold. So glad there was no romantic scenes... ick. The author is obviously extremely intelligent and understands the subject matter but I was never pulled into the story.

great story horrible narrator

the book is great!!
the narrator doesn't know military terms and butchers some pretty badly. also made the female characters sound like school girls instead of women.

Very good story

I think this is a story about what is going on now to a degree.

I am not a fan of killing each other, so I mostly am interested in the plot of the story.

I wonder. Will we hear about Japan any time soon??

Didn't like it... but I had to know what happened!

This was a weird one for me. It was so cheesy or cliche in parts I alternated between rolling my eyes and bursting out laughing. One reviewer was right... I didn't know how dialogue could be "distracting" but it sometimes was. There'd start to be action, and then it would go off on a tangent conversation and I'd be thinking "aaahhh shut up and get on with it!!!" And the female voices were the worst I've ever heard. They all sounded the same: nasal, whiny, 10 year old girls.
But. I slogged through it all because I had to know what happened!! I couldn't stop. The political part was interesting, and there was something about the plot that kept me coming back for more.

Lots of action with a very weak plot

Sudden Threat, released in 2009, was the first novel by A. J. Tata whose books began being released in audio format this year. Author US General (retired) Tony Tata, a West Point graduate, retired from the US Army in 2009 with the rank of one-star (brigadier) general. His eighth novel will be released next month.

I do not understand the 4.5 star average rating at Audible. The 4.0 average rating at Amazon makes more sense, but is still an unjustified gift. My plan is to purchase Foreign and Domestic by this author. It is the first novel, released in 2015, in the Jake Mahegan series.

Among the many mistakes the author makes with this novel is having far too many characters. My 2 star rating of Sudden Threat is being very kind. I DO NOT recommend this novel!
