Publisher's summary

Technology may be different in 2060 New York, yet the city is still a place of many cultures and great divides. And as ever, some murders receive more attention than others - especially those in which the victim is a prominent businessman found in his Park Avenue apartment tied to the bed - and strangled - with cords of black velvet.

It doesn't surprise Lieutenant Eve Dallas that Thomas Anders' scandalous death is a source of titillation and speculation for the public - and humiliation for his family. While everyone else in the city is talking about it, those close to Anders aren't so anxious to do so. Fortunately, because Dallas' billionaire husband, Roarke, happens to own the prime real estate where Anders's sporting-goods firm was headquartered, she has some help with access.

Before long, she's knocking on doors - or barging through them - to look for the answers she needs. But the facts don't add up. Physical evidence suggests that the victim didn't struggle. The security breach in the highly fortified apartment indicates that the killer was someone close to Anders, but everyone's alibi checks out, from the wife who was off in the tropics to the loving nephew who stands to inherit millions. Was this a crime of passion - or a carefully planned execution?

It's up to Dallas to solve a sensational case where all involved guard secrets from one another - and strangers may be connected in unexpected and deadly ways.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Critic reviews

"Concisely narrated with verve and humor by Susan Ericksen.... Her Irish accent for Roarke is uncannily believable as is the voice of a character who is suffering from a terrible cold. The production is engaging, and Ericksen's verbal nuances add drama to the novel." (AudioFile)

Another Excellent Eve Dallas Mystery

I love the Eve Dallas/Roark novels. The characters are great and the mysteries are always well plotted. I like to read them as well as listen to them. Susan Erickson is perfect as Eve and wonderful as Roark with his Irish accent.

Book 26 of the Best Series Ever!

The 'In Death' series, written by J.D. Robb & narrated by Susan Ericksen, is a futuristic suspense series. The story is set in mid-21st-century New York City & it centers around Lieutenant Eve Dallas & her billionaire husband, Roarke.

My husband & I both love all of the J.D. Robb, 'In Death' series. We first began listening to them when they were on CDs. We've listened to the entire series, in order, three times so far! If we're driving somewhere, you can be sure Eve, Roarke, Peabody, McNab, Capt. Feeney, Mavis, Dr. Mira, Nadine, Summerset & the rest of the gang are in the truck with us. We love all of the major characters & look forward, with anticipation, to the new audiobooks that come out in February & September every year!

If you're looking for an awesome mystery series, a little romance with a bit of the futuristic thrown in, then you'll love this series! Believe me, you just can't go wrong, but be warned... once you get started, you'll be hooked!

Fun Story

All of the series so far are pretty great Somewhat predictablee . They have A LOT of swearing, which is over the top and the sex scenes are explicit. So beware of that. But I really love the characters in the story and how they they are developing. There is a lot of sarcasim, whitty banter, funny situations and love. The narrator really makes the story. Susan Erickson has incredible talent. She acts out the characters and switches back and forth between characters, accents , etc in seemless flawlessness. I have never heard another narrator perform this well.

Strangers In Death

JD Robb out does herself again with another great book. One can not help but laugh and cry in every book. The one liners kill me. Eve must find a killer of priests. But does the priest deserve it? Will there be absolution or more death?
