Publisher's summary

Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed - husband, wife, two daughters, dogs.

There’s something about the scene that pokes at Lucas’s cop instincts - it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution he’s seen in drug killings sometimes. But this is a seriously upscale town, and the husband was an executive vice president at a big bank. It just doesn’t seem to fit.

Until it does. And where it leads Lucas will take him into the darkest nightmare of his life.

Back in Minnesota -- crime is worth a visit

Once again Sandford delivers a really gripping book and a Audible delivers a really well read version.

One of his best.

I have read all of Sandford's novels and -- IMHO -- this is one of his best Lucas Davenport stories.

The writing is fast paced, the plot is credible without being predictable (a big feat these days) and the story flows really well.

I couldn't turn it off, and the ending made that worth it. All of the recurring characters made an appearance, which is always fun.

You could read this as a stand alone novel, but it would probably be more meaningful if you went back half a dozen books in the series.

Narration was excellent, as usual.

My Prayer Review

This may appear again now and then.

Dear God: Please let this man write another book soon and please let me be here to listen to it. I can't say something like 'even his worst book is good' because I can't think of anything he's done that is worse than anything else.

Before I post this list I have to say that Sandford, Parker and MacDonald are EXTRA special. And Richard Ferrone as John Sandford's voice is an amazing match. Like George Guidall with Craig Johnson and pretty much anything George reads.

Robert B. Parker lived in this space for me as did John D. MacDonald. Currently, Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, John Hart, Craig Johnson, John Lescroart, William Kent Krueger Ridley Pearson ,and Jonathan Kellerman. Some others are really good but these guys have something special. If you are into mystery-thrillers I just gave you a back catalog I wish I could have...but I HAVE had it and it is an incredible treasure. I stopped going to libraries and swap places just so I can encourage these guys by sending them money. Please enjoy.
P.S. Adding Brian Freeman.

" ... it's the Mexicans!" ... best Prey yet!!

What did you love best about Stolen Prey?

John Sandford's characters get richer & deeper with each new book in the series. His people don't get flat with time, they become even more dimentional the more you learn about them.

What did you like best about this story?

Our hero, Lucas Davenport has become a family man ... but has not lost one speck of his intense, sometimes vigilante-like drive ... he may even be more driven now.

Which scene was your favorite?

Lettie uses her "spidey-sence" and saves the day!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

... even in the most dire situations, these cops make me smile ... everytime someones says, " ... that f*#kin' Flowers!" ... or my new favorite cuss-line, " ... f*#k me w/a telephone pole!" ... ya' gotta laugh! :)
