Publisher's summary

For the first time in unabridged audio!

A small Kansas town has turned into a killing ground. Is it a serial killer, a man with the need to destroy? Or is it a darker force, a curse upon the land? Amid golden cornfields, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers evil in the blood of America's heart.

Critic reviews

"As usual, Preston and Child deftly mix the real and the surreal, creating an atmosphere in which everything, for reasons we can't quite nail down, seems a tad off-kilter. Call it creeping paranoia, perhaps, or the dreadful certainty that something awful is about to happen. Whatever you call it, it's a recipe for success." ( Booklist)

Good book, hard to put down

The characters were well developed and the story was good. I thought I would miss the other characters that started out in the first three books, but the authors have a knack for inventing new characters that you can like and want to see move forward. Each book you know a little more about Pendergast, this one did not disappoint.

Still Life with Crows

One of the best audio books I've heard. Well written and well narrated. Character development was excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone and looking forward to the next in the series.

One of my favorites

An entertainingly macabre edition to the classic detective genre, featuring the charmingly quirky agent Prendergast.

Unrelenting

What made the experience of listening to Still Life with Crows the most enjoyable?

Shivers and Shudders Around Every Corner!

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott is an amazing narrator. His voice never interferes with the story.

Couldn't put the book down. Totally frightening.

This is the best book I've read from this author. The narrator, Scott Brick does his usual outstanding work.

Almost couldn’t listen due to the accent

The narrator didn’t do a good job on the accent for Kansas. He sounded like he was going for a Georgian or Louisiana accent. Or what passes for such in movies. The story was very good. The narrator not so much. I’d listen to him read anything without the fake accent however because he did a wonderful job of expressing emotion with tone of voice. But to hell with the fake accent

Do you like the dark?

Preston and Child deliver another great Pendergast story. In this one, he is assisted by an intelligent high-school student with a troubled home life (who brings a YA literature aspect re making poor choices, etc.). A killer with almost superhuman abilities in darkness, panicked townspeople who are struggling with the likelihood that a murderer walks among them, ghost stories, and caves are all in this whodunit.

Scott Brick does a good job as narrator: use of pitch, emotionality, and matching speed of delivery to action were well done.

But we learn only a bit more about Pendergast in Still Life With Crows. His use of Chongg Ran is given a little more detail, as is his association with Wren. There are a lot of unanswered questions about this enigmatic protagonist, though. Friends in high places, but enemies, too...
