Publisher's summary

For the first time in unabridged audio!

A small Kansas town has turned into a killing ground. Is it a serial killer, a man with the need to destroy? Or is it a darker force, a curse upon the land? Amid golden cornfields, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers evil in the blood of America's heart.

Critic reviews

"As usual, Preston and Child deftly mix the real and the surreal, creating an atmosphere in which everything, for reasons we can't quite nail down, seems a tad off-kilter. Call it creeping paranoia, perhaps, or the dreadful certainty that something awful is about to happen. Whatever you call it, it's a recipe for success." ( Booklist)

Rivals "Relic" as Best Book

Would you consider the audio edition of Still Life with Crows to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course, Pendercast is the star of this series. I don't really like the Pendercast character, but the stories by Preston and Child are so exciting, I am willing to accept Pendercast. I actually liked Sheriff Hazen; I am glad he redeemed himself.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene on the rock wall was my favorite scene. That is the one in which Corey, Pendercast, and Lefty are trying to climb to safety but are being chased by the monster.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I could not stop listening. I even played the audiobook as I went to sleep.

Any additional comments?

It is possible that this book, Still Life with Crows, was even better than Relic. So far, my favorites have been Relic, Reliquary, and Still Life. I did not like the Cabinet of Curiosities. I am now starting Brimstone, and so far I do not like that one. I do not like the whole Pendercast soap opera; I like the monsters and murders and edge-of-seat tension.

Best story in Pendergast series

If you could sum up Still Life with Crows in three words, what would they be?

Scary, interesting, great characters.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I like Scott Brick, I enjoy his voice. I enjoy the other narrator of the series as well and became accustomed to Rene but Scott is always good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The cornfield and road scene.

A taut thriller from start to finish!

Excellent story and narration! It was my first experience with authors Preston and Child, but it won't be my last. I'm on a mission to 'hear' everything they have to offer!

Different, but still good!

The tone of this story is so different than the others in the series. The performance was my favorite so far, but I'm hoping the next book will be more like the first three in the series.

Pendergast at his finest

Pendergast is again diving headfirst into a surreal adventure, dripping with gruesome murder, small town politics and native american history. One of his finest performances yet, and readers will not be disappointed with the amount of Pendergast-y nuances, well turned phrases, and polished wit that begets this wonderful series.

Creepy from beginning to end

As usual Preston And Child did it again. Combining just enough of the natural and supernatural to make you believe in ghosts and curses and keep you on the edge of your seat. I'll certainly never go spelunking in uncharted territory after the thrilling mystery in this story

Got me through lots of snow shoveling!

Thoroughly listenable. It made hours of unpleasant snow shoveling a fairly painless task! The cave scenes were very exciting. Look forward to more.
