"Very Good listen"
The story was very good and and I found the main character DI Marnie Rome very believable along with her gay partner Noah.
The asian girl having bleach poured into her eyes.
This was my first Abigail Thaw but it will not be my last
the domestic abuse and control and the need to inflict pain saddened me.
The subject matter makes for some depressingly realistic reading but the story is very engaging and I couldn't find fault with anything
"I enjoyed this book"
Not sure that the story was really believable but I enjoyed the story
A new detective with an interesting family history, a dark secret that wasn't dark, and an interesting sidekick.
Despite this sounding negative, I really enjoyed the book and will be looking out for more Sarah Hilary books.
"excellent narration, realistic plot."
yes because of the narrator, i could never put the voices in my head as eloquently.
Harry Binghams series.
I enjoyed them all.
yes it was quite moving in parts.
Excellent narration and book, no more on audible of this author or narrator but hopefully there will be more.
I think i was in the wrong frame of mind listening to this book. I found some parts brilliant but then i would zone out and not really pay attention in others. For this reason i would listen to another Sarah Hilary book to give it another chance.
I didn't really feel attached to any of the characters, i felt it didn't give you enough of each person to form a bond with them which is why it was easy for me to tune out every so often. I don't think i can blame the book entirely for this as i was tired the week i was listening to it which probably contributed to my not enjoying it as much as i may have done.
"Gripping from start to finish"
I was recommended to this book by a friend and was not disappointed, it well deserves the Theakston's prize. Well rounded characters and a plot full of intrigue, I look forward to Sarah's next novel.
The narration, the plot and the characters.
The plot seemed to be going nowhere (I have to admit I gave up) and the characters were unbelievable.
An annoying habit of swallowing - once I noticed it, it really got on my nerves.
The sound quality overall wasn't very good.
"Couldn't listen to this"
I selected this as I enjoy books by Mo Hayder and Val McDermid and this was advertised as being in the same vein. I just couldn't get into it and returned it.
There was nothing wrong with the performance - it was the content of the book itself that I didn't enjoy.
"Rather dark but gripping in parts"
My first try at Sarah Hilary's work. The characters are well drawn and the pictures painted by her words are vivid. Too much emphasis on violence and menace for my taste but the suspense was kept til the end and overall an interesting story.
"Someone else's skin - book was ok ish"
Someone else's skin - book was ok ish
There was one twist near end of book that I didn't see coming but a lot of it was plausible
Narrator was ok liked her
"Alright very long, not exciting, not gripping."
Again I learnt my lesson buying during promotion will not bother next time. Hard work, don't bother.
