Publisher's summary

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake-off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.

Critic reviews

"No less than her plotting, Evanovich’s characterizations are models of screwball artistry. . . . The intricate plot machinery of her comic capers is fueled by inventive twists.” (The New York Times)

“Chutzpah and sheer comic inventiveness.... The Evanovich/Plum books [are] good fun.” (The Washington Post)

Stephanie never changes

More craziness, more hot men, more destruction in her wake, more dead bodies. We need a fresh plot.

Great narration

Real killer

These Stephanie Plum stories just kill me. Just when I think the characters can't get better, you bring in another absolutely nut. Love it!

Really enjoyable

There wasn't as many funny scenes with this one. But I felt like Stephanie really had some quandary regarding her relationships. Gave her depth

Wringing every dollar out of this tired series

But I keep buying... :). I want it to end already. She is releasing another book in November, but at 6 hours + this is about a half a book, so it certainly pays to keep shortening them up if you can get people to buy 2 books instead of one. I feel like a sucker...

Same as the last one

Lorelei King is awesome, she made the book enjoyable. It's kind of the same as the last one. Funny but lame.

Lot going on

Seventeen is probably one of my favorites in the series. More variety. Not so much repeat mishaps such as being stun gunned every other paragraph. But the killer I suspected early on. Not much surprise there but it was good.

Always entertaining

Looking for pure entertainment, I downloaded this book to listen to on a long road trip. I have read all of the Stephanie Plum Novels, they are a little predictable but always funny and entertaining. The narrator did an amazing job with all of the unique voices for the characters. I especially loved the voice for Lula.
