Publisher's summary

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake-off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.

Critic reviews

"No less than her plotting, Evanovich’s characterizations are models of screwball artistry. . . . The intricate plot machinery of her comic capers is fueled by inventive twists.” (The New York Times)

“Chutzpah and sheer comic inventiveness.... The Evanovich/Plum books [are] good fun.” (The Washington Post)

Stephanie never changes

More craziness, more hot men, more destruction in her wake, more dead bodies. We need a fresh plot.

Great narration

Real killer

These Stephanie Plum stories just kill me. Just when I think the characters can't get better, you bring in another absolutely nut. Love it!

Really enjoyable

There wasn't as many funny scenes with this one. But I felt like Stephanie really had some quandary regarding her relationships. Gave her depth

The old Stephanie is back!!

I was a little disapointed in the 16 book and some of the off shoot books but this one put Stephanie back to her usual bumbling funny self and mis fit friends.

Good for some mindless entertainment...

Where does Smokin' Seventeen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is basic Stefanie Plum formula: exploding car, Ranger vs. Morelli, Lula in spandex, Grandma Mazur going to viewings. Nothing new, nothing predictable. But, as always, it is good for several hours of mindless amusement. The narrator is fabulous - she has an amazing range of character voices. Sometimes I forgot it was only one person doing the reading.

Stephanie Plum is at it again!

Stephanie Plum is back and up to her eyeballs in trouble as usual. Dead bodies are turning up buried at what use to be the bonds office but that’s not Stephanie problem she has bad guys to catch that is until the dead bodies start being addressed to her. Lorelei King does a great job of narrating Smokin' Seventeen. Just enough story, humor, or sarcasm. Highly recommend! #Audible1

Best in the series!

This book is SO FUNNY!!! There are so many wacky side plots, I laugh out loud every time I listen to it. The cordon is my favorite part :-D Whenever I'm down or in a bad mood, I listen to this book.

Smokin' is an understatment

If you're reading this you've probably read all before it. This is one of my favorites because I am a fan of Steph & Ranger. If you are too than you can't miss this one. If you are on the fence definitely read it.

Same old, same old...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love this series and would recommend the earlier books, but its getting to the point where every book is the same. The love triangle between Stephanie, Ranger and Morelli is tiresome, thankfully we have Lula and Grandma Mazur to keep us amused.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

Lorelei King's performance is probably the main reason I go back to these books now... her narrative really brings the characters to life.
