Publisher's summary

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake-off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.

Critic reviews

"No less than her plotting, Evanovich’s characterizations are models of screwball artistry. . . . The intricate plot machinery of her comic capers is fueled by inventive twists.” (The New York Times)

“Chutzpah and sheer comic inventiveness.... The Evanovich/Plum books [are] good fun.” (The Washington Post)

Just love Stephanie Plum and Janet Evanovich

Where does Smokin' Seventeen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is one of my favorite audiobooks. I love the entire series. I read too fast so listening to audiobooks is a great way to really enjoy a book.

What other book might you compare Smokin' Seventeen to and why?

I would compare Smokin' Seventeen to any of the other books in the series.
I would also compare this series to Mary Janice Davidson's Undead series. The Undead series also features a strong female character who is hilarious and not always the most qualified. But in the Undead series Betsy Taylor is a reluctant vampire.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like the way that Lorelei King voices Grandma and Lula.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh out loud. I'm sure other drivers thought I was nuts.

Plum Losing Her Luster

As always, I enjoyed the newest installment of the Stephanie Plum numerical series.

The only problem is that some of the staples of the series--Steph's oft-repeated foibles--are beginning to lack any sense of newness. For example: You know that Plum is going to have at least one car trashed per book, but the ways in which those cars get destroyed seems to have been more surprising and/or creative at one time. Could be that it's just not possible to keep a recurring comic character fresh. Will leave that for others to figure out.

All that aside, I'm still plum-crazy for Stephanie and her adventures. I'm not sorry I bought this one.

Still crazy after all these years

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Janet Evanovich is still crankiing out funny adventures for Stephanie Plum while continuing to develop and mature her personality. I always wait anxiously for the next installment in Stephanie's life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Stephanie is my favorite character because she seems to have a knack for turning an ordinary day into a complete disaster without much effort.

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not had the pleasure of listening to any other performances by Lorelei King.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes
