Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan knows what it’s like to be haunted by the past. For years after her daughter, Bonnie, was stolen from her, she fought for closure. When her mother, Sandra, asks Eve to find a missing friend named Beth Avery, she wants to help but is sure that Sandra is hiding something. The fact that she adamantly refuses to go to the police reinforces Eve’s suspicions that something is very wrong.
Eve learns that Beth has been locked away in a mental hospital for years, which makes it even harder to understand how she could have disappeared. As Sandra reluctantly reveals small pieces of the truth about Beth’s identity, Eve is shocked to discover that their lives are strangely entwined, and Beth’s disappearance now puts them all in grave danger.
Desperate, Eve enlists a secret weapon to pick up Beth’s trail: rogue profiler Kendra Michaels. With an uncanny ability to detect clues and solve puzzles, Kendra begins to uncover the bizarre circumstances of Beth’s escape from what should have been the safety of her hospital room. Beth is on the run, and as her mind clears - detoxing from the drugs that have held her prisoner - she begins to see the threads of a twisted plot within the powerful Avery family, threatening to destroy her and anyone else who might jeopardize the high-stakes game that is already in play.

Iris Johansen does it again. After finding Bonnie, I wondered where she was going to go with Eve and Joe and didn’t see how she could make it interesting. But she absolutely wrote another great thriller. I would definitely recommend this book. It was interesting, well written and kept the reader wondering what was going to happen next. I enjoyed meeting new characters as well as having some of her previous ones’ lives expanded. Can’t wait for her next book.
I love the parts where she and Bonnie have such a connection and the relationship she and Joe share
I just love Bonnie, even though she is just a spirit
i honestly am not sure
The Eve Duncan books always keep me on the edge of my seat. I always try to figure out what's going to happen next. Always enjoy these books
Want books to keep me on the edge of my seat. I commute a lot and love being engaged in a mystery thriller.
Right in there with the rest of these types of stories
No particular favorite they all fit well
Great intonation for all the characters
i'm usually more in love with Eve books this was was slow to me and it took me a while to get it into
make Eve show some emotions about her mother have a back bone
it made me feel sad that eve didn't stand up to her mother and tell her how she made her feel

Don't know. Who would ever do both?
Not really, but it was excellent.
Eve of course.
Would not make a good movie. There are other Eve Duncan books that would need to be made into a movie firs.t
I am not sure how many male fans there are of this series, but I sure do love it. I connect with all of the characters. I have read every one in the series. I started reading/listing to books in 1996 and Eve Duncan was one of the first books I randomly pulled from a grocery store counter, so this series has become a comfort book for me.
Once again Eve and Joe enter a search. This takes them to California to find a sister she never knew she had. Dreams, awakening from a 20 year nightmare and entering into a crazy, unbelievable time where the life and death of her sister becomes a battle zone.
With Joe's help Eve is able to find and save her sister Beth.
Wonderful storyline. Truly hope there is at least one other book with these characters. This is a must-listen.
I always enjoy an Iris Johansen book. This one is great.
Eve Duncan. She never seems to loose her desire to find out the truth, no matter how she is hurting personally.
Definitely. But it took two days to listen to.
After discovering Kendra Michaels I had to go back and read Iris and son Roy's "Close Your Eyes." Both are stand alone books but it is interesting to go back and learn more about characters.
I do not see well so audio is great
all her stories are great
meeting her sister
