Publisher's summary

A number one New York Times best-selling author and an Edgar Award winner team up to deliver this gripping new novel featuring investigator Kendra Michaels - whose observational skills are worthy of a modern-day Sherlock Holmes.

Delilah Winter is one of the hottest pop stars on the planet, so how in the world was she kidnapped right in the middle of a show at the famous Hollywood Bowl? If anyone can figure it out, it's Dr. Kendra Michaels, who works with local and federal authorities on only the most impossible cases. Blind for the first 20 years of her life until a revolutionary surgical procedure allowed her to regain her sight, Kendra uses her powers of observation - honed during her years in the dark - to detect what other investigators don't. She agrees to lead the race to rescue the young singer before time runs out.

Joined by Jessie Mercado, the singer's former bodyguard and a military hero, Kendra closes in on the hideout location, but not before casualties mount up. Desperate for leads, Kendra must set aside her personal feelings when agent-for-hire Adam Lynch also volunteers his special skills to aid in the search.

But as the abductor's true purpose becomes clear, the trio uncovers a plot they never could have imagined - leading to a showdown they won't soon forget.

It moved quickly and was fun to listen to.

The narrator was easy to understand. The story moved in such a way that it kept my attention throughout the performance.

Spoiler Alert

Don't read this review if you intend to listen to the book. I love the Kendra Michaels series and I do highly recommend this book. But....there were a couple of glaring plot holes. I do not think there is any way that the FBI would allow a civilian to listen in on an active investigation just because they were donating money. Especially since there was another money source available. Plus, no one was suspicious about why someone would part with 20 million dollars for an ex- girlfriend? The biggest thing that I beg this author to do though is deal with how her heroines deal with their love lives. Kendra and Adam, Catherine and Cameron, Jane and Seth- they all have the same relationship. The women are painted as strong, intelligent, overcomers of adversity, beautiful, capable of forming deep and meaning interpersonal relationships with everyone except the men that they are drawn to and deep down, love. In those relationships the author makes them to weak to love, so afraid of losing control of their emotions that they are emotionally crippled. Instead of being free to live passionately the are snippy and whiney and relegated to live alone for years with only occassional sexual gratification. It is so tiresome and she needs to change the narrative. keep some of the banter and the heroines strong personalities and independence but have them have some control over there love and not be pictured as so insecure that they cannot enjoy their relationships but instead have to forgo them and be alone.

Sensational!

Loved the intrigue. Didn't figure out who the bad guy was until almost the end. My husband listened to the whole book with me and he loved it too!

Not Up to Par

This entry in this series is much more than disappointing. There is so little story and mystery involved that I am amazed it made it to print. I have loved the series up to this point. Feel free to skip this entry. It does little to advance the characters featured in prior books.

They’ve forgotten what made Iris her fan base

I’ve given a 5 star to probably 98% of her books and I’ve read or listened to every one. I’ve been a fan for close to 30 years. There was absolutely no romance in this book except the last few sentences a gesture is thrown in. Think she’s afraid to write love let alone sex anymore. Besides that Kendra seemed very bitter in a lot of the scenes, very much so towards Adam. The story was basically Jessie’s, I really like her but she should have her own series instead of taking so much of this book. Maybe I just didn’t care for the storyline so it seemed Kendra & Adam we’re definitely back seat. I need a good dose of romance in my suspense stories or I stick with just romance. I may have to start passing on their books which would be a shame, I used to love Kendra’s crime solving and thought Adam was good for her, but she suddenly tried to change him. That will never work in a relationship. Elisabeth Rodgers was fantastic as usual.
