Shadows in the Night

A year after the chilling death of her mentor, criminologist Harley Frasier is still rattled. Secretly, she's suspected murder all along. Now the unveiling of the Amenmose exhibit is triggering a series of unexplained attacks, and there's only one man she can trust.

FBI special agent Micah Fox is used to charging into dangerous territory to solve a case. Working with a civilian is new ground, especially when she's as irresistible as Harley. He can't say no to her sharp instincts and sexy smile. And with a threat closing in, there's no way in hell he'll leave her unprotected.

Never Sleep with Strangers

Four years ago, while vacationing at their country estate in Scotland, Jon Stuart watched his wife plummet from the balcony to a horrific death. Although cleared of any involvement, he's endured years of public suspicion - losing friends and his good standing in the community. But this was no accident, and now he's determined to prove it was murder.

Orchestrating a dangerous plan, Jon has gathered the prime suspects at the scene of the crime. The stage is set as past and present collide, old lovers reunite...and a killer plots another perfect crime.

Uneven

The first story was fine and what I have come to expect from Heather Graham. The second story was poor - characters undeveloped, plot pacing poor.

Excellent narration

Good - not great - stories, but the narration MAKES it! Entertaining enough for one credit. Nice, long audio book.

Loved the second Book

When I purchased this Audible, I didn’t realize it was two novels. Needless to say, the first story was a trial, the second very enjoyable.

Game of Clue anyone?

Both were worth the listen. I usually figure out the "Who done it" before the reveal. This time I got a surprise with "Never Sleep..."

Hitchcock Meets Agatha Christie

I just recently discovered Heather Graham (I know, I know), and I've been listening to all her Finnegan books and really enjoying them, but this is by far my favorite. The first story has the Finnegans in it; the second story doesn't. Both reminded me of old-school mysteries where it was difficult to predict whodunnit. The second one reminded me of an Agatha Christie mystery. I loved, loved, loved this anthology, and I have a total book hangover. I don't want to move on to a different book.

Shadows in the Night stars Craig Frasier's cousin Harley and another FBI agent named Micah Fox investigating the murder of a leading Egyptologist and a series of attacks by someone dressed up as a mummy. It begins in Egypt and then moves to New York. Craig Frasier and Kieran Finnegan are secondary characters in this one. There was something a little Hitchcockian about it, but I don't want to give any spoilers.

Never Sleep with Strangers takes place in a remote Scottish castle which gets more remote when the guests get snowed in. The castle owner, Jon Stuart, is a mystery writer who hosts an annual mystery week for mystery and horror writers until his wife dies under suspicious circumstances at one. Convinced his wife was murdered by one of his guests, he holds another mystery house party a few years later, hoping to catch his wife's killer. Of course, the mystery game becomes frighteningly real, and they end up having to solve more real murders. There are many red herrings, and it kept me guessing - and a bit stressed since there were so many characters I loved and didn't want to see become a victim or be the murderer. It kept me guessing.

Saskia Maarleveld did an excellent job with the narration. I'm happy to have found a new narrator that I like.

Formulaic

This pedestrian book utilizes every possible trope. Could not finish, too painful! A waste of time.
