New Fan!

I love the fact that, so far, Mr. Sanford tells behind-the-story narration. On to #3! ❤️ Davenport & Jennifer relationship; it’s always in the background.

Not as good as the first in series

Not as good as the first in the series, but still kept my interest during my work commutes and workouts. I will listen to one more in the series before I decide whether to stop.

Shadow Pray

Learned a lot of history that was too scary for me. We are not a nice country in many ways.

Tons of swearing Light on realism

You want to like Lucas but he lacks morals and integrity - he’s authored to “want” to be a father and have a healthy relationship but it’s as shallow as his law enforcement ethics. I realize these books were written a long time ago and that today there’s people who will swear that law enforcement officers regularly act out unethically and illegally (to be fair the author admits in his first book that cops like Lucas don’t exist or wouldn’t for long) but I think the character could’ve been so much more of a “bad ass” lead character if he was a better cop, a better person and acted with some morals - in the book it seems the only tether to morality for Lucas is his old classmate friend who is now a Catholic nun but even that tie is too scarce to draw any meaning. There’s so much potential but he’s written 30+ books in this character line and I wish I could read every one but I think I’m moving on - I like my characters to behave within the realms of possibility, prefer them to have some morals (especially at the age this guy is supposed to be - it’s not like he’s a college frat boy) and honestly, I can handle cussing but the author uses GD excessively - it’s unnecessary and super offensive… isn’t a decent vocabulary supposed to be something writers are supposed to have a strong command of?? For the love of God (literally) change the language used to express emotion, anger, frustration etc… it’s like listening to someone who uses F-bombs like they were punctuation - boring and crude…

Decent thriller

Enjoyed the first book of this series so thought I’d give this one a try. I think the author was still trying to identify his writing style with this one. I had a difficult time following along in the beginning, the character development was lengthy and a bit confusing. Once I got past the first few chapters it flowed better and kept me interested. I really like how the main character is pulled together so we’ll in his professional life but a train wreck in his personal. I’ll probably read a couple more in the series, to see how the author’s writing improves and find out where in the world Lucas is going to end up. I recommend this book but I had to pay attention a bit more than I usually do with audio books. Oh and beware of the vulgarity and disturbing crimes.

Lord can Davenport just not

Story is hard to follow because it’s all about Davenport’s sexual prowess which made his object of desire unlikeable and him just yuck. I loved the first book and I enjoyed how he was portrayed but now I have no sympathy for him at all. And getting into the actual crime was hard because it was mostly about him being stupid about women. Not sure what the author was trying to do or going through making the character like this but I’m going to give the 3rd book a try but if it is the same I’m done with the series. Fingers crossed that it gets better.

Lucas Davenport = Great

If you could sum up Shadow Prey in three words, what would they be?

Davenport, suspenseful, exciting

Who was your favorite character and why?

While I guess Davenport but another character, it would be Lily. I enjoy the whole cast of characters in the Prey novels though.

Any additional comments?

I have read most of the Prey series and love it. Am going back and listening to them in order. This is his second book. The narration is excellent. Does not disappoint. I highly recommend this series.

So happy to "stumble" across this series.

If you could sum up Shadow Prey in three words, what would they be?

Thrilling, captivating and enthralling.

What did you like best about this story?

It was exciting and felt very plausible. It was a fresh breath that you followed both the police and the killers thoughts. The Main character Lucas Davenport, he's clever, intelligent, tough and a ladies man, but also a man who has has flaws and is hard to figure out. Well written characters that are not one dimensional.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

Richard Ferrone has a very cool dry voice, he makes the book come to life. I really enjoyed listening to him tell the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Some of the things that made me go woah, didn't see that one comming.

Any additional comments?

I'm hooked to this series, only greif is that some of the books aren't available in my country.
