Publisher's summary

For years, Detective Brooke Chandler has been deliberately shielded from the supernatural world. But now that the supernaturals know about her, there's no line they won't cross to harness her powers for their own wicked needs.

To stay alive, Brooke needs to learn what it means to be a Shadow. Unfortunately, the one person willing to help her may be just as guilty of using her unique skills for his own gain as the people she is trying to escape.

Her training comes at a price: helping a fae lord find several dangerous artifacts and shadowing them from his enemies. But the more she uses her abilities, the deeper she becomes embroiled in the cutthroat societies closing in on her. Soon, Brooke finds herself hemmed into a corner, condemned to make an impossible choice that might destroy the human world as she knows it.

Maddick the Fae Lord

is the reason I spent a full credit on this story. Miss Dawes best character voice is her Scottish accent. Do not miss Nora Roberts the McGregor series and laugh your head off. I did purchase all three stories in this series due to the Maddick Scottish character. This series had mixed reviews on book 2 and three and if it were not for Miss Dawes narration, I would not purchase more from this author. Some of her female dialogue seems juvenile, l can't quite put my finger on it maybe it's the word choice author uses. This does not have a sad ending, just a preview of the next book!
Maddick shines in his chapters.

Excellent

I started this book in the morning while on my treadmill and finished it while having an early dinner. This is a highly entertaining and enjoyable listening experience. Brooke is in between a rock and a hard place for the entire book and you can't help but sympathize with her. Walt and Hamilton did a great job with this book and I can't wait for the next one.

Short and expected

This book hits trite more than once. Perhaps if this book and the first or second book were a single book, there would be a bit more development.

Good narration, but story fell short.

These books have an interesting overall premise, but the execution falls short in this book. There is not enough character development or world building, and the problems the main character encounters are frustrating because they either have simple solutions she never even considers, or they are of her own making and completely avoidable.
