At an abandoned Soviet base in the Arctic, a battle to save all life on Earth is about to begin. A long-forgotten relic of the Cold War, a top secret base known only as Dragon Island houses a weapon of terrible destructive force, a weapon that has just been reactivated. The tradition continue ! Cannot put the book down (or in this case the headphone down).
It is non-stop ... exactly like all the other Matthew Reilly books.
Easy to listen ...
The torture near the end, I was sure the team did lost an other member.
If you have never read a Matthew Reilly, look at the sequence he wrote the books, and read them in the same sequence .... he surprise you at each book.
Begin with Contest ...
If you enjoy non-stop action, life & death situations and plenty of high-tech gizmos ... not to mention a very capable little robot, this is the next book for you.
The idea that we can put the past behind us, that even sworn-enemies can put aside differences for the greater good ... if only it worked in real life.
This is my 1st of his.
It helped the continuity as they were racing from room to room on island to island if you could listen in a block.
It was a great listen for a road trip, I just kept finding myself hitting the gas pedal a little too hard. "... honest officer, I wasn't speeding. The Scarcrow just had to get back in time to save Mother and the world!"
Aw, c'mon......an airplane that falls over a waterfall with our hero inside who has time to strap on his seatbelt, save his companion with a mortal gunshot wound, AND fight off some beserkers (crazed, African mercenaries) at the same time!!?? The heroes are impossibly heroic, the bad guys impossibly evil, the plot impossibly....well, impossible. This reads like a screenplay for the next Rambo movie where character and plot are an afterthought and action is the focus. And, man, is there action! Unfortunately, none of it is believable, but if you like action, then this book is for you. If you like something credible, intelligent, and believable, with characters that ring true, try something from Daniel Silva. Beserkers?....seriously??!!!
Well, it sounded like a great premise. This is a book all about action. Think of the most unbeliveable situation you could be in, then think of the most unbeliveable way out of it. Now you have this book. Seriously, do not waste your money.
A miracle or a 70 point reduction in my IQ. How about a lobotomy?
Not written it in the first place.
Not read it in the first place.
One of the most ridiculous books I have ever read or listened to. This story was so far fetched I don't know where to begin. I don't know how it could get a 4 star rating with only 2 reviews (both bad 3's). The previous reviewers did a good job and hit the nail on the head.
No character development. No believable plot. Sophomoric dialog. Impossible stunts.
To say this book was trash is charitable.
