NOT sure, this book was not the kind of books I enjoy. It was to me like an old Dick Tracy storyline and just moved too slowly for me, I had to download it again before writing a review because I did NOT remember what it was about that is how interesting it was for...however this only my opinion, I am sure that someone else would probably write a GLOWING REVIEW opposed to what I have written, if this is the kind of book they enjoy.

What about Jeff Woodman and Bruce DeSilva (Introduction) ’s performance did you like?

I have to say that IF it were NOT for the Narrator who did a great job it would have been a total bust for me....LOL Kudos to him...

I really enjoyed the book, performance and story. Well done!!
A different mystery written from the perspective of a newpaper writer.

Pretty good

A home town RI reporter try's to use his familiarity with the big players, politicians and thugs to help find out who is committing arson in a specific neighborhood. He is estranged from his wife, in love with another gal who he works with and has an old high school friend in love with him. Along with his complicated love life he has a half pint-tough guy after him to drop the investigation. This man who is a foot shorter than he is, keeps getting the best of him by catching him off guard.

I thought that this story was pretty good and then all was lost when too much information was put into a very fast ending. It lost its timing for me. That being said, the writing and characters were well developed.

Loved every part of this book

OUTSTANDING and am thrilled that there are now two more in the series. Just downloaded #2 and am starting to listen tonight! Perfect narrator!

One of the Top Debuts of The Decade

An almost perfect presentation of a brilliant, engaging, clever, wry and gripping story. The characters are brand-new, yet so tenderly brought to life that you feel you'd recognize them on the street. This book packs an emotional wallop and still manages to be wholly believable. I just learned that the second book in the series is out, and I know what I'm listening to next!

The main character may be closer to a charming Andy Carpenter or young Spenser, but his story places him in sinister company and surroundings more familiar to readers of Robert Crais, Michael Connelly, Adrian McKinty and Dennis LeHane. Anyone who appreciates great storytelling and flawless characterizations will love this audiobook.

I was skeptical about this book, but thoroughly enjoyed it! It had some nice twists and turns. The narration was good, but the narrator certainly was not from Rho Dieland!

Worthy of a credit. A quick and enjoyable read!

Masterful who-done-it Tale

Bruce DeSilva uses a wry humor and gritty dialogue to tell the tale of a Rhode Island newspaper reporter uncovering a large number of arsons in his home town.It is difficult to believe that this is the author's first novel. However, it is not difficult to believe that he has received Edgar and Macavity awards and been nominated for other awards.I already plan to listen to two subsequent novels: "Providence Rag" and "Cliff Walk". It isn't often that I give five stars in all categories, but they were richly deserved in this case.

Great Series Debut & A-Plus Narrator

Home run on story, voice(s) and pat on the back for selecting this book, which was multiply honored for a debut series.

What did you like best about this story?

Loved the narrator's gift for dialogue and dialect.

Which character – as performed by Jeff Woodman and Bruce DeSilva (Introduction) – was your favorite?

hard to pick: many were stellar depictions of wiseguys, etc.

Starts great, tapers off into mediocrity

I enjoyed the opening chapters of this book a great deal, the dialog was very snappy and well done, the narration is great and the characters were eccentric and pulled the story out of the herd. Then, for some reason the story began to get stale, the story took no new direction, the bad guys were able to win the day and the references to baseball began to dominate the story to the point of distraction and irritation - nothing happened for a long stretch, just the main character hiding out at his Aunt's home watching T.V. and growing a beard, then just like that the ending is wrapped up with a tidy little solution and all is well.
This writer has some talent and some of the dialog is so well written it makes the book enjoyable but there is such a dead spot in the story i am not sure it is worth a top recommendation.
If you have been tempted by this book and it is in your wish list, and it is your genre take a chance on it, it is not a bad book, but not great either.
