Publisher's summary

On a remote island in the Canadian Arctic, researchers discover the wreckage of a mysterious World War II-era aircraft, a discovery that forces the Russian Federation into a shocking admission. The unmarked plane is a Soviet strategic bomber that disappeared with its crew more than 50 years ago while carrying two metric tons of weaponized anthrax.

Desperate to prevent a political and diplomatic firestorm, the U.S. president dispatches a Covert-One team led by Lieutenant Colonel Jon Smith to the crash site. But others have reached the frigid, windswept island first, including an international arms dealer and his crew of vicious mercenaries. As for the Russians, they are lying: a second, even deadlier secret rests within the hulk of the lost bomber, a secret the Russians are willing to kill to protect.

Trapped in a polar wilderness, Smith and his team find themselves fighting a savage war on two fronts - against an enemy they can see and another hiding within their own ranks.

A bit different from previous Covert One stories

There was a few surprises (language, rape, romance) in the storyline on this one but it was a good listen. The tension between Randi and Smith was unexpected since they had been on better terms in previous books. Overall I like where things are headed.

Murder at the top of world

Would you consider the audio edition of Robert Ludlum's The Arctic Event to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the book.

What did you like best about this story?

How the main characters complimented each other---they rose to each challenge and overcame whatever obstacle together.

Which scene was your favorite?

Didn't have a favorite scene....enjoyed the whole audiobook.

Any additional comments?

I have read or listened to previous "Covert One" novels....this one ranks up there with the others.

Good Story - Sound Effects Ruin Listening

This is actually a pretty good story, not nearly as random and unbelievable as most of Ludlem's stuff. The listen experience is very nearly ruined by the ridiculous sound effects added to the recording (gunshots, helicopter rotors, explosions, etc.) These effects make this is a hard book to listen to

Great Thriller

I am a fan of the Covert One series and found this one most enjoyable. James H. Cobb has done a good job with the old charaters and hopefully the new ones will be back. James Cobb is now on my list to read more of. Jeff Woodman wasn't too shabby with the narration either.

Typical Adventure Triller

When you listen to this type of book, you know the drill. I especially like adventure stories that take place in foreign locations such as the Arctic or the Amazon. This was very interesting and the Ludlum/Cobb style. If you like this genre, this will not disappoint you.

Fairly good read

The plot line is interesting. It is set in the Artic and listening to the book when it was really cold outside added to the suspense. At times the story gets a bit slow but it keeps going and holds your interest.

still good

I want thrillers to go fast, and I read slowly. I read Hades Factor (quickly) and the next couple of books in the series too. But I'd rather let a good narrator read me the rest. This book was good. I like going through the whole series and following the main characters as they appear and reappear.

Exciting!

The Arctic Event is top notch. I hope the writer will pick up the torch and continue the series. The characters become more alive than in any of the previous Covert One books. The reader does a fine job from beginning to end.

Good book, but...

I did enjoy this book. I listened to the frist two and enjoyed them two. I just wish the bad language would be shown ( like on movies or games ) before a person bought a book. I won't listen to anymore of these books by this auther. ( i am sorry for my bad spelling)
