Critic reviews

"Yo ho ho? get ready for a ripping good yarn.... This nonstop action adventure has all the elements of a perfect summertime thriller - pirate treasure of unimaginable worth, 300-year-old cryptograms written in invisible ink, a legendary curse, and a driven captain who will stop at nothing to reach his goal. The red-hot authors of Reliquary score another big winner." ( Library Journal)

Good Listen, not to heavy.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really enjoyed this book first of all. I would absolutely recommend it to a friend.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plotline of this story is a little slow going and can drag for a while but it still kept me interested.

Did Scott Brick do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Good character development and althought it was easy to pick out the roles each character would be playing early on in the book.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book and it was a nice easy listen. However I have to agree with the reveiws that the reader had a very dull voice. It honestly does sound like a hypnotist trying to put you to sleep. You can get over that after a while but it is a distraction.

great adventure

Pirates, add some Indiana Jones flavor, with a Maine kick. A recipe for disaster, but that makes a great listen!

More like "Rip-TIRED" or "Rip-OFF"

Would you try another book from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and/or Scott Brick?

Yes, bought this during a sale and received a second discounted book "Thunderhead." I will listen to this eventually, but there are some other books that I jumped in front of Thunderhead for my listening pleasure.

Would you recommend Riptide to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably not, just not enthused with the actual story or the writing.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but his performance was one of the reasons I continued to listen.

Do you think Riptide needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Eh, there were somethings that were left hanging, but nothing else of interest.

Scott brick is terrible

I just have to Agree. I have found myself consistently going backwards realizing I am not listening at all because of this voice. Why can’t he read with some kind of connection to the text? There are so many readers for lincoln child books that are excellent and they are trash online because of this reader.

Fun Ride

Fun and well paced action tale. The back story of the fictional island owes a big nod to the history of the real-world Oak Island.

NARRATOR- SCOTT BRICK- BRINGS THE BOOK DOWN

This book had the potential to be such a great listen- but the narration of Scott Brick has once again ruined a book for me. It is hard to understand why Audible can't seem to get someone else to read these wonderful books- there are so many great choices out there. I read complaint after complaint about Mr. Brick's "singsong" voice or tedious, whiny, boring readings- It is just a shame Audible doesn't address this somehow. I guess the only option for the members is to avoid any books he narrates. The story was really good, and I would have given it a 4 or 5 rating if it had a narrator who made it enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend actually READING this one.

Preston and Child never disappoint!

I absolutely love all of the Preston and Child books. I started with the Pendergast series now working my way through all of the other books. Very suspenseful!

Great story. Very suspenceful and hard to put down. I was disappointed when it was over. Also, I love listening to any book narrated by Scott Brick.
