Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Andrew Peterson is back with a heart-stopping fourth installment of his wildly popular Nathan McBride series.

When a mysterious note referencing a top-secret US operation is tossed over the wall of the embassy in Nicaragua, Nathan McBride and his old pal Harv are called out of retirement by CIA Director Rebecca Cantrell and sent to Central America. Cantrell wants the situation resolved quickly and knows that Nathan is the man to do it; after all, he has a history with the place. The jungle he and Harv are about to land in is the same one that Nathan barely escaped with his life decades before, an ordeal that left him physically and psychologically scarred. To make it out alive a second time, Nathan will have to face down his own demons and square off with a ruthless killer who learned from the best, Nathan himself.

A world of snipers

McBride faces a more of his past in this novel. Snipers he was tasked with training years ago. One of them has gone rogue and is supporting the cartels. He and Harv are sent to deal with this problem. It's a compelling story that's not exactly a mystery, but it's nowhere near predictable. An enjoyable read overall.

Too Many Instructions...

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

So much of the last third of the book involves the lead character telling two other characters over a walkie talkie what to do, where to go, etc.,etc. I found is quite stultifying.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think Dick Hill always does a great job.

Any additional comments?

Not as exciting as I recall his previous 3 books.

Good addition to the series

This fourth book in the Nathan McBride series has a strong plot and enjoyable characters, but to me not as suspenseful as the earlier ones. One of my favorite things about Peterson's series is that he knows when to end the book--and does so rather well.

A great installment in the Nathan McBride series.

If you have listened to the other books in the Nathan McBride series, then you know what you are I. For here. Dick Hill does a wonderful job narrating the listener through the story as Nathan and Harvey once again pit their wits against a villain who is oppressing the villagers of a small town and taking advantage of them. If you like the series, you will like this installment.

More sneaking than sniping. Still a great listen.

Very different from the third book. Story and action is more or less concentrated to a single jungle village. A lot of sneaking and hiding. Short bursts of (great) action, but surprisingly (and disappointingly) very little sniping in this book. Still - a credit well spent. Great ending.

Dick Hill - superb as always.

Very technical

I liked the first 2 books I read by this author but this one is way too detailed on battles with the enemy! Not too much of a story line.

Gone Green

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book was hell bent on changing the political bend of the author - did not play well with the characters.

Outstanding

To me there is a great deal of similarities between Andrew Peterson and Lee Childs writing style. Each of their main characters are very similar. I found I like Peterson and his McBride character better. If you have not listened to Peterson and you like writers like Childs, Silva, and Coonts I think you will like Peterson. Give the McBride series a try I don't think you will be disappointed.
