Publisher's summary

Introducing a major new thriller writer—in the vein of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor—and an electrifying character, Dewey Andreas.

A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

While the intelligence and law enforcement agencies scramble to untangle these events and find the people responsible, the mysterious figure of Alexander Fortuna—an agent embedded into the highest levels of American society and business—sets into play the second stage of these long-planned attacks. The only fly in the ointment is Dewey Andreas—who is using all his long-dormant skills to fight his way off the platform, then out of Colombia and back to the U.S., following the trail of terrorists and operatives sent to stop him. Power Down is a gripping, compelling debut thriller from Ben Coes, a powerful new author, an amazing talent certain to join the ranks of the genre's finest writers.

Critic reviews

Power Down is terrific! With a gripping story, compelling characters, a relentless pace and nerve-wracking suspense, Power Down is one of the must-read thrillers of the year. Don't miss this debut of novelist Ben Coes and the introduction of Dewey Andreas--you'll devour this one and wait anxiously for their return.” —Vince Flynn, New York Times bestselling author of Pursuit of Honor

“A ripping thriller from an exciting new novelist. Power Down kept me glued, turning the pages. Lots of action, a terrific hero, and a slimy villain--thrillers don't get any better.” —Stephen Coonts, New York Times bestselling author of The Disciple

Good action, scary story

Any additional comments?

Our soldiers are great, but the enemies within our country are too scary.

good story, didn't care for narrator

I hate to give a negative review when someone obviously took lots of time to produce the work, but I think this narrator was best for this book. I really didnt like how the narrator would slow his speech to drag out points then mumble and speed up other halves of a sentence. It was a bit annoying and took away from the listening experience, but the story was good enough to keep me interested. Also, the narrator wasn't very skillful in distinguishing his voice, especially when female characters were speaking. Several times he'd mix up the voice inflections of the characters speaking, but due to good writing, the listener didn't get lost.

Power to Please

What did you love best about Power Down?

Very well written. Great action adventure. Didn't get bogged down with too much detail.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Action from the first chapter to the last. There are some unexpected twists.

Which character – as performed by Peter Hermann – was your favorite?

Dewey Andreas. I enjoyed the voices of all the characters. I think the Irish accent of Jessica didn't fit her position in the FBI, an American voice would have been better.

Any additional comments?

This is an intelligent thriller; worth purchasing. I look forward to the next Dewey Andreas book.

Great new characters and story

I've been looking for a new Vince Flynn for awhile and think this comes close. They story was fresh and appealing and the characters were exciting and flawed. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.
As a listener I was a little disappointed with the pace of the narration but sped up the speed to 1.24 and enjoyed.

What a Thrill Ride start to finish!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book grabbed me from the opening line and did not let me go until the end. And I wanted more. The author knew his stuff and his characters were well written and in profile start to finish. I hope this is just book 1 of 20!

What other book might you compare Power Down to and why?

I wouldn't compare this to anything I have read lately. It stands in a class by itself.

Have you listened to any of Peter Hermann’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Great performance, excellent diction, excellent characterization, and the timing was exquisite.

Power Down

A novel that strikes too close to the times we find ourselves in, well written and narrated, worth the credit to buy.
