Critic reviews

"Robinson’s latest reads like a video game with tons of action and lots of carnage....Gruesome and nasty in a good way, this will appeal to readers of Matthew Reilly." ( Booklist)

not my favorite Robinson

there were many times where I was just struggling to get through this. as a Robinson fan I expected second world or island 731, this while steeped in lore, was not as good. the performance was also a lot worse. in the end it picked up once I got to know the characters. writing is still clunky and cliché I'll try the next one to see of it improves.

Another thrill ride.

Mixing ancient history, mythical lore, and military action, Jeremy Robinson once again delivers an intense thrill ride. If this were a movie I'd say it's a perfect summer popcorn flick. (speaking of which, Hollywood really should be working to bring some of Robinson's work to the big screen) Pulse features an intriguing cast of complex characters, a ton of nonstop action, and one heck of a wild story. I definitely look forward to checking out what happens next to Jack Sigler and the rest of the Chess team. As he always does, Jeffrey Jafer does a great job with the narration.

Not Bad

I do find that I enjoy some of Mr. Robinson’s work. Some are not so interesting and some are. But that is how it goes for stories. Granted, some plot lines seem over the top complicated. That is unfortunately the nature of the beast. Why else would you pick up the book. I did find this story pretty good and paced fast enough to keep it interesting. I would recommend this.

A little cheesy but inventive

This reminds me a little of the Clive Cussler books but the super natural is there and has a scientific explanation.

OK

Creative storyline, not a bad book. I assume the author was sponsored by whoever makes metalstorm weapons though, as the brand name was repeated ad nauseum throughout the book, which was kind of distracting.

Hydra

This is the first Chess Team novel, and here the team meets a mythical beasts from the time of Hercules. the great HYDRA. It was said that for every head of the Hydra that was cut off, two more would grow, and when Hercules defeated it, he made sure that he buried it in an area that was so dry, that it would never ever have enough moisture to be able to regenerate itself whatsoever.
Cue in the mad scientist and geneticist and we have the perfect recipe for a novel. In typical Jeremy Robinson fashion, he blends history, science, blood curdling beasts and James Bond worthy villains, and poof, there goes sleep for the unforeseeable future, because the book refuses to be put down.

I love Kafer as a reader for Robinson's books, but (only a slight but) it is clear to me at least, that he is a fairly new reader at the time of this particular performance. He certainly becomes immensely better just a few chapters in already, but the beginning is a bit painful to listen to. So please, if you are new to Jeremy's books, or Mr. Kafer's reading..don't go by this performance. the book is great, the performance isn't the absolute best, but we all start somewhere, and that needs to be remembered!

Great combo

What did you love best about PULSE (A Jack Sigler Thriller - Book 1)?

I really enjoyed the way the author intertwined the ancient and the modern. Maybe legends really do come true.
