Publisher's summary

Nathan McBride, “the most brutally effective thriller hero to appear in years” (Ridley Pearson, author of Killer Weekend), returns in the third installment of one of the best new series in thriller fiction.

When Nathan McBride receives a text message from someone who claims she’s been kidnapped, it triggers a deadly chain of events that has the potential to haunt him for the rest of his life. Nathan will soon learn that nothing from his past could ever prepare him for the crisis he’ll soon be facing. The girl’s name is Lauren and she’s just 12 years old. With virtually no experience with children, Nathan’s patience and compassion are about to be tested to their limits.

In a violent confrontation, Nathan rescues Lauren from her kidnapper, but as he unravels Lauren's story, he realizes his troubles are only beginning. She says she's in the Witness Security Program, and doesn't trust the US Marshals because she thinks they're complicit in her abduction. Not only that, her stepdad was murdered last night.

In a desperate and unlikely alliance, Nathan and Lauren must stay one step ahead of her kidnapper and the brutal mercenaries who will kill anyone who gets in their way. Played out over the course of 36 lightning-fast hours, Nathan and Lauren must learn to trust each other or they won’t survive.

Another Exciting Adventure

A fast paced, thrilling story. The performance lacked polish, but the story line keeps you listening.

Nathan McBride #3, He Does it Again!

Responding to a text from a kidnapped twelve year old girl, Nathan enters into a dangerous world of ruthless child smugglers and serial killers. But who is this smart, sassy girl he's just rescued? And how is she involved? Full of twists and turns, and the nuances of learning to adjust to life with a twelve year old, while still chasing the bad guys, Nathan, once again, proves to the the man, the soldier (marine) he's always been . . . well written and great narration . . . thank you, Andrew Peterson!

Best of the three.

The first two books were good, and then better; this one rates "best." The reader hasn't improved, but only because he set the bar so high to begin with.

tedious

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. The first couple of hours were repetitive close calls, to the point of being tedious to listen to. I found myself using my iPod Touch's feature to play at 2x. That's not a good sign.

What could Andrew Peterson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This was a much weaker effort than the first two books in the series. It felt like Peterson kept gluing one more close call and escape onto the sequence until he'd filled up enough length. Then at the end, having Nathan's half-sister not remember anything was a very contrived way to wrap things up more quickly. Too quickly, leaving too sketchy an explanation of the backstory. Very unsatisfying.

Any additional comments?

This book gave me the feeling that Peterson is about out of good ideas for the Nathan McBride character. This is the point in a series where many other writers would bring in a co-author. (Cussler anyone?)

A great story as usual. . .

The only thing I had to knock about this story was the character, Lauren. It seems the author struggled with alternately making her mature and subjecting her to way over the top violent situations and embarrassingly childish talking to her as if she was a toddler. But, I still enjoyed the story and plan on listening to the next story!

Looking for the Next Mitch Rapp? Found a Canidate!

What made the experience of listening to Option to Kill the most enjoyable?

Dick Hill is great clear easy to follow and smooth, the story keep it's main characters down to a manageable level. And the author will teach you interesting stuff without trying to impress you.

What did you like best about this story?

Nathan the hero is a flawed haunted honorable man. He makes the decisions you hope you would decide to make. This book really took off in a heartbeat and if you didn't jump on board fast the story was going to pass right by you. I wanted to get swept up in the action and I was.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the the part where the vet stepped up and helped another vet. Respect between those who serves resonates with me

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It's Coyote Season

BEST NATHAN McBRIDE THRILLER TO DATE

Narrated by Dick Hill in the same tone and professional manner of all his work, he brings Nathan McBride to life. You listen and think Nathan himself is recalling the story. I have review the first two McBride novels and feel Andrew Petetson has produced his best work to date. I love seeing Nathan's human side opposed to his Marine/CIA side that really can't be separated.

When young Lauren texts Nathan saying she has been kidnapped he knows it's no hoax. Lauren gets his attention by using his secret CIA code name. Nathan leaps into action trying to find and protect Lauren. He immediately finds himself in the middle of a situation he doesn't fully understand. But as McBride is never in over his head he heeds the call and the thrill commences.

Option to Kill is the Best McBride book to date. It is a great listen and makes you want more.
