Publisher's summary

Jo Slater has it all. The queen of Manhattan society, she has dealt successfully with a tricky period in which she lost her husband, her fortune, and her reputation. But she bounced back, and now, newly single in the greatest city in the world, there is not a cloud in the sky.

Then Russell Cole, an old friend just married to a much younger woman, goes missing while yachting in Barbados. His wife, Carla, tries to befriend Jo, but Jo is suspicious. Carla's past is murky, and now, with her billionaire husband's money at her disposal, she seems set on conquering the highest level of New York's social scene. Suddenly, those who oppose her start dying off, and Jo decides to take matters into her own hands.

Hitchcock does it again!

This was a wonderfully written story however; Rosenblat stole the show with an incredible narration. I listen to a lot of books and she ranks among the very best!! Russ Webber OBX

entertaining summer listen

Sassy, funny entertatining and suspenseful, this high-society mystery-thriller will keep you interested without demanding too much concentration. Perfect for road trips, poolside or cardio. Long, but not boring at all.

entertaining but predictable

I enjoy this narrator's performance of the confident, gritty Joe. Her voice fits her age and personality. The story is interesting and gives an honest if not brutal look into New Yorks elite social crowd. The main character, Joe, is likable and I find myself rooting for her cause. Though at times it's hard to believe such a smart woman could make such bad errors in judgment. But her loyalty and strong allegiance to her friends makes these lapses in judgment excusable. The story moves along at a good pace with relationships and other characters developed throughout. At times the story is a bit predictable but the ending comes to a satisfying conclusion that wraps up all the loose ends. I definitely enjoyed the story and the performance.

It’s a slight variation on Social Crimes

I felt like I was listening to the same book as Social Crimes… same exact theme and story with a couple of different characters.

Money mystery

It was interesting to hear the back stories of the various NY associates of Jo. The narrator did a fabulous job of the other persons and personalities. It got a bit drawn out with details unnecessary but it kept us both intrigued for so many hours in the road.

Only on Chapter 33 but

Please let him be alive. This seems like something he would do to get the answers he wants.

Not exciting

Maybe if I knew the characters I would have found the story interesting! I could relate, or care about, any of the characters. I did not finish the book so maybe my review is a bit premature; but this author has much better books here.

Deviously delightful

I enjoyed listening to what seems like a real insight into the society of wealth. Ms Rosenblat’s many voices add to the charm. I can’t wait for the next Jane Stanton Hitchcock book!

I loved it!

This book was just great fun. The reader was wonderful, slipping easily in and out of characters and the mystery element kept me going. Jane Stanton Hitchcock has a real feel for upper crust New York society, the older money, the jockeying for position. If it was not a perfectly constructed tale, it was one of those times you really didn't care because the ride was so fun. I'm getting another of her books now.
