Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Only a handful of fictional characters are recognized by first name alone. Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas is one such literary hero, who has come alive in listeners’ imaginations as he explores the greatest mysteries of this world and the next with his inimitable wit, heart, and quiet gallantry. Now Koontz follows Odd as he is drawn onward, to a destiny he cannot imagine. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal town where nothing is as it seems.

Odd for Odd

Any additional comments?

This was a much different story for Odd Thomas over the previous installments. There is a lot less paranormal activity that Odd is known for and more shoot em up encounters that is not in his character. It starts out slow. The first hour or so Odd is trying to evade some bad guys and we aren't told why. It picks up after that. Nevertheless, it is a good story.

David Aaron Baker does his usual great job. I can't imagine anyone else as Odd.

Odd hours

I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the odd series. However it seems to have gone off on a different path in storytelling. It was missing a few things where in made incomplete. The audio reading was done professionally and without errors.

Mediocre story and narrator.

The story was akin to a romance novel and the narrator fell short on the romance.

Everyone says that they get better, but . . .

Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or David Aaron Baker?

I like Dean Koontz, as obviously millions do, but I won't buy another Odd Thomas book. Until I get really bored, I suppose. They say these books get better, but it's hard to wade through this boring stuff.

What was most disappointing about Dean Koontz’s story?

Odd Thomas is an interesting character and so are the secondary characters in this book. It just seems like this novel took a long time to become anything interesting. It spent way too much time describing the underside of piers to be compelling.

Could you see Odd Hours being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I enjoyed the Odd Thomas movie and they should stay with the same stars. However, they should skip this book and move on. I hear that the series gets better if you keep reading.

A more action-type storyline akin to Grisham.

The narrator was extraordinary. Not at all how I expected Odd to sound, but fantastic.

From start to finish I can't express how much I wanted more of the story to go on.

There was nothing that I dislike or was unhappy with with this book. I can't wait for the next book.

Never a dull moment

Odd Thomas is a character that you can get emotionally involved with. Dean Koontz draws the reader in, and doesn't let go, an addiction.
