Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Best Thriller/Suspense Category, 2013

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria.

In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

A harrowing taste of Roseland’s terrors convinces Odd that it’s time to hit the road again. Still, the prescient Annamaria insists that they’ve been led there for a reason. Just how deep and dreadful are the mysteries Roseland and her masters have kept for nearly a century? And what consequences await whoever is brave, or mad, enough to confront the most profound breed of evil? Odd only knows. Like his acclaimed creator, the irresistible Odd Thomas is in top-notch form - as he takes on what may well be the most terrifying challenge yet in his curious career.

another great book from Koontz

Again another excellent book in the Odd series. Narrator was excellent also, he didn't rush through every sentence as some do. Made the already good book that much more enjoyable.

Odd Apocalypse

Would you consider the audio edition of Odd Apocalypse to be better than the print version?

I've not read the print version of this book, but it played out like a proper Dean Koontz story - and I have read many, so I imagine it's a serviceable edition.

What other book might you compare Odd Apocalypse to and why?

Odd Thomas is the best of the series, book two was good two, book three was ok, book four was ordinary and book 5 was getting back up there to original Odd greatness

What about David Aaron Baker’s performance did you like?

David Aaron Baker actually sounds like I imagine Odd Thomas would sound - he did a fantastic job of embodying the character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

There were times when I didn't want to stop, but occasionally I find a need a break from some of the more stressful scenes. I remember at one point it was relentless mystery, why this, why that, wtf... Too many questions and very little answers. Nicely resolved though.

Any additional comments?

Odd Apocalypse has restored my faith in the Odd Thomas series. If it weren't for the other reviews given to this book, I may not have picked the series back up after the disappointment of the fourth book. It was a return to the Dean Koontz form that I know and love.

Excellent Book

Would you listen to Odd Apocalypse again? Why?

Yes, I can't wait for the next book. It is spellbinding.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Odd Apocalypse?

Time machine. Odd Thomas almost went back to see Stormy.

Have you listened to any of David Aaron Baker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes, just as good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Time machine was destroyed because humans can't be trusted.

We missed you Odd!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, as long as that friend read the last 4 books.

What did you like best about this story?

I love this series and it was good to finally have a new one. It was witty and fun just like the rest with a unique and creepy plot as only Koontz could invent.

Which scene was your favorite?

Odd's discovery of the secret door to the past.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely!

Any additional comments?

It wasn't my favorite of the series but was still great. The addition of the new famous "companion" should be fun if DK decides to keep the series going.

Five books might be too much for poor Oddy!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes--it is the fifth in a series, and worth listening to.

Would you be willing to try another book from Dean Koontz? Why or why not?

I have lots already, and many on my wish list! I sure would!

Which scene was your favorite?

Unfortunately, none spring to mind. That was the problem with this book!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No--just disappointment. I think it might be time to retire poor Odd.

Any additional comments?

Disappointed in the story--draggy and strangely bland. Not what I expected from either Dean Koontz or the Odd Thomas series.

Back On Track?

Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or David Aaron Baker?

I have been a fan of Dean Koontz for over 20 years. I will continue to listen and/read his work.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The end of this book was a bit predictable, but still entertaining.

Have you listened to any of David Aaron Baker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have a lot of audiobooks by various authors and narrators. I have a lot of audios read by David Aaron Baker and I am never disappointed by his work.

Any additional comments?

I hope that this book is a sign that Dean Koontz is getting The Odd Series back on track. The mystery of the eternally pregnant woman who calls herself Annamaria, is getting old. But this book does give hope to this series finding a direction.

I just hope it doesn't fizzle like the Moonlight Bay Trilogy that stalled after book 2

Curious Listen

What did you like best about Odd Apocalypse? What did you like least?

It was a very intriguing story and was my first Dean Kootz book. I was rather confused about everything that was occurring for the first quarter of the story; a problem which I don't think I would have had if I was physically reading it. However I eventually started to understand what I was hearing and became intrigued with the fantasy and history incorporated into the book.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I definitely enjoyed the Nicola Tesla references and history that was incorporated.

Do you think Odd Apocalypse needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I thought there was... if there isn't, then most definitely to find out what happens to the characters.
