Publisher's summary

Tanya Bigelow was a solemn little girl when Dr. Alex Delaware successfully treated her obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Now, at 19, Patty Bigelow, Tanya's aunt and adoptive mother, has made a deathbed confession of murder and urged the young woman to seek Delaware's help.

Armed with only the vaguest details, Delaware follows a trail twisting from L.A.'s sleaziest low-rent districts to its overblown mansions, retracing Patty and Tanya's nomadic and increasingly puzzling life. Then, a very real murder tears open a terrifying tunnel into the past, where secrets, and bodies, are buried.

Dramatic, action-packed, and filled with psychological detail that only Jonathan Kellerman can provide, Obsession is a whodunit, a whydunit, and something unique: a did-it-ever-happen. This is Kellerman at his heart-racing best.

Psyched? Listen to all of Jonathan Kellerman's Dr. Alex Delaware thrillers.

Obsession: I want more

Have always been a big fan of Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware but I feel his latest stories are drifting away from the main characters and moving towards weaving complicated story lines. Although I love his attention to detail and enjoyed following the trail of the plot, I could not connect with the new characters or really believe the story itself. I would like Kellerman to explore the develoment of Robyn and Alex's renewed realtionship. Where are they heading? I need to know more about the main characters to stay hooked. However, ever hopeful, I always look forward to the next book from Kellerman.

Another good one!

Patterson keeps you guessing with this story line. I had to keep listening as there was no good place to stop it. A good who-done-it with mystery, intrigue, and suspense.

plot, character, character then psychopathy

More story in this then strange depraved crimes. So if you are into character development then this gives you a lot of time to get to know the main characters in this story vs. listening to details of crimes or psychological assesments of them and the person commiting them.

I think this is not for fans of forensics or psychoanalytical disection.

It reads slow.

But as always J Kellerman can still tell a story...

A problem with narrator

This is not one of Kellerman's best, but certainly not his worst either. My main problem is with John Rubinstein. I absolutely love the way he voices Alex Delaware and especially Milo Sturgis. However, I have a real problem with the way he voices ALL women characters.

They all sound like breathy, helpless females, even when what they're saying should sound forceful. Why couldn't he voice women the way women really talk, which is not all that different from the way men talk?

Obsession

Good word for how I feel about Johnathan Kellerman. I love his work and have either read or heard all his work.
The narrator is the best, giving life to all the characters.
This one starts out a tad slow but quickly buids steam to an exciting climax. I hartily reccommend this to any mystery fan.

A Dog that Smiled

The details in Kellerman’s books can be endearing, as the title of this review implies. Such details compensate for the horrifying details in a murder mystery. Milo and Alex remain wonderful. Tanya, a new character and a major one in this title, is very attractive. And there are more! Have a good listen!

Too boring for words

The unabridged version is the most drawn-out, super fluffed read I've ever downloaded. It takes Kellerman what seems like hours to get to a point, and then it's trivia. Don't waste your credit.

Kellerman's worst

Of all his Delaware novels. This one has shaken and stirred the formula and given us drivel instead of a good martini. I;m sure Kellerman was/is tired of these characters and succumbed to editorial pressure to put something out to generate revenue.

I'll think twice before buying another one of his books. I'll let someone else take the plunge and report before I do it again.

I liked your WSJ editorial on mental illness Jonathan but this is not recommended.

Awful

This is the first audiobook I really hated. It was a struggle to finish it, and only did because I had paid for it. The story was disconnected. The OCD didn't seem to have much to do with the story. It was difficult to keep the characters straight. The major difficulty was in lack of plot and just confusion as to what the story was about.

Sheer boredom

I have read and enjoyed other books by this author, and chose this one to listen to on while on our winter vacation. I was so disappointed and bored with this story that I finally gave up three-fourths way into the book, choosing to not waste any more of my time with this. I found the plot initially interesting, but the story line became quite convoluted, dragging on with boring detail but without any substance to hold the listeners interest. The narration was interesting in itself, but not enough so to overcome the completely uninspiring and unimaginative story line. Sorry I wasted my time and money on this one.
