Editorial reviews

Amanda Ronconi narrates this humorous mystery with the vocal equivalent of an eye roll. While she doesn’t sound bored, she certainly sounds annoyed. But imagine her character’s predicament: She’s purchased an old crumbling Victorian on the Jersey shore, she’s fixing it up into a guesthouse, her precocious nine-year-old is hectoring, and now she finds out the Victorian is haunted!

Admittedly contrived, over-the-top, and including references that will be dated unto obscurity within the next decade or sooner, Night of the Living Deed seeks to achieve only one thing: Your temporary laughter and merriment at - or with - Ronconi’s eye-rolling voice.

Fun and easy listening.

I loved the narrator and enjoyed listening to her voice(s)
I’ve listened to 3 books in the series so far.
These stories are simple but the characters are interesting. These would be great for a family road trip, good clean fun. Everyone will be trying to guess who did it! Reminds me of Scooby-doo!

Interesting, but series worthy?

What made the experience of listening to Night of the Living Deed the most enjoyable?

The story concept was good. A newly divorced mom with daughter moves into a haunted house where the ghosts proceed to ask the woman to solve their murders.

One of the two ghosts was a private detective before he died, so he attempts to walk her through investigating their murders and the crime behind the murders. Did I mention he can't leave the house and can't communicate with her when she leaves the house?

The premise was good in its own way. This really should be more of a 3 1/2 instead of a 4, but of course, we aren't given that option. I liked the story. It was a pretty good mystery in its own way, though I found some of the characters a bit tedious toward the end. A few too many "red herrings" for my tastes.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was ok. I found it a little hard to believe that the characters that had become the ghosts were killed for the reasons given. I guess maybe the plot felt a little flimsy to me.

What three words best describe Amanda Ronconi’s voice?

Amanda Ronconi saved the day on this book. She is always incredible. Possible my favorite narrator. I think she might be the only reason I finished the book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I wouldn't make a film of this book.

Any additional comments?

I may be a little to harsh on this book, but it just felt off. As if the author was trying to hard to make the story into something its not.

What I find odd is that this is the first book in the series. The next book has another mystery where the detective ghost assists the main character into solving other mysteries. I am not sure how that is going to work.

A Ghost of a thriller culminating on Halloween!

If you could sum up Night of the Living Deed in three words, what would they be?

Creative, Fun, Imaginative.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, it was a good who-dun-it story. Although the story seems outrageous, the elements of weirdness are incorporated slowly and gradually so that the possible outcomes increase dramatically. Good story with lots of humor too.

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

Maxie Malone and the way she goes for Tony. A ghost totally infatuated with a living man, she is out of control!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely

Any additional comments?

The book is well narrated and there are so many plot twists, very fun!

Super cute, light hearted mystery.

If you need a something light to read inbetwee n your heavier reads this is a good one. It's a murder mystery with ghosts. The Allison is a single mom, with an ex known as the swine. Her 9 YO daughter is super smart, and her mom may seem ditzy, but you never know. She also has great friends that stand by her and help the fix up the guesthouse, get her daughter, protect her, they are just always there.

I was a little surprised by the end. it was very good, not stressful, just enjoyable characters and story.

The narrator was good too.

LOVE THIS SERIES

Would you consider the audio edition of Night of the Living Deed to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version. The narrator is fantastic. She brings the characters to life.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait for the next one. I would love to find more books like this series. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. This series is addicting and I wish there were more available.

Found a fun new series!

I bought this book during one of Audible's sales. It sounded interesting and was it ever! I wasn't sure about the narrator at first, but as the story went on, she was perfect for the part. I loved the 1st person point of view, and the snark was fabulous. Every time I thought I had the mystery figured, something would come up. I stayed up past my bedtime just so I could finish and solve the mystery. Will be listening to the others books in the series, most definitely!

Laugh Out Loud Funny!

This is a fun story that has some surprises that make you say, I didn't see that coming. I love how the story keeps me actively engaged. The narrator is my absolute favorite. I happened on this because I was looking other stories read by Amanda Ronconi and WOW! I am so thrilled with this author, I am going have to get this entire series. I found myself laughing out loud at times and that is saying something for me. If you like a little supernatural with a side of humor, this is the book for you.

I enjoyed this ordinary family interacting with the ghosts in their old house. Definitely a different Murder mystery.
