Editorial reviews

Amanda Ronconi narrates this humorous mystery with the vocal equivalent of an eye roll. While she doesn’t sound bored, she certainly sounds annoyed. But imagine her character’s predicament: She’s purchased an old crumbling Victorian on the Jersey shore, she’s fixing it up into a guesthouse, her precocious nine-year-old is hectoring, and now she finds out the Victorian is haunted!

Admittedly contrived, over-the-top, and including references that will be dated unto obscurity within the next decade or sooner, Night of the Living Deed seeks to achieve only one thing: Your temporary laughter and merriment at - or with - Ronconi’s eye-rolling voice.

Highly Recommend

I love this series and was always looking forward to the next one. Tthere are a few spots where a scene from the previous book is given in the current story line; I was ok with this. I did read the series from beginning to end over a couple weeks (I enjoyed it that much).

The series is unique without being too over paranormal.

Ghostly Renovations

I’m a bit of an eclectic listener/reader. In the category of cozy mystery books, this one by E.J. Copperman, Night of the Living Deed, ranks just over halfway up my list of recommended books. Alison Kerby discovers the house she is renovating is haunted. She pairs up with her daughter Melissa, mother Loretta, and ghosts Paul and Maxie to solve the mystery of who killed Paul and Maxie and why they did it. Amanda Ronconi is a fantastic narrator for this book and portrays the characters in such a way that there is no confusion as to who is speaking. This is a fun mystery book with some outlandish characters that delivers laughs and is appropriate for readers in their teens and up. This book is light on violence and romance and focuses more on mystery and laughs. As of this review there are eight audible books in this series. While I did enjoy this book I have no desire to delve deeper into this family and the community of Harbor Haven, so I will read further in this series. I definitely recommend the audible books "A Scone to Die For" by H.Y. Hanna and "Dead Man Talking" by Jana DeLeon to add to your cozy mystery book list.

A keeper!!

I've never read this author and this isn't my normal genre per say, but my mother in law loved it. She told me it was funny, and thought I would enjoy it. I'm glad I took her advice, because it was such fun and a page turner. The narrator is one of my favorites so that was a plus. I love how she calls her ex the swine and small detail throughout the book that make it fun and relatable. I highly recommend and I'm going on to book two now!

Ghosts and other humorous things

If you love and mystery enjoy humor from this series of books is for you. I usually listen when I'm doing other things light cleaning, dishes. when I'm creating artwork drawing, painting or carving, even when I'm done I carry it straight through to bed and listen to them as I fall asleep. But with this book I couldn't fall asleep so I had to backtrack after about 6 or 7 hours in order to finish it it's awesome it was a lot of fun I enjoyed it very much.

Not bad but...

Perfect to listen to if you cannot pay 100% attention, funny, ideal for not very demanding readers who just want to pass the time, or for older kids. Not gonna listen to sequels.

So much fun to listen to!

The story is a little cheesy and a lot predictable, but, it is the perfect listening book for driving or while trying to clean the house. You only have to keep track of a handful of quirky but relatable characters which makes it more enjoyable for me to listen to while I’m getting things done around the house. Anyone familiar with the Jersey Shore will definitely get a kick out of this book. I picked this up around Halloween to enjoy a good ghost story and it met the mark. Not scary, more like detective fiction with a big punch of humor. I will be listening to the next in the series!

Haunted Guesthouse Series

Plot. Alison Kirby, a 30-something divorced mother of a nine-year-old girl, purchases a large seaside fixer-upper house to create a vacation inn. During rehab of the property, Alison is hit on the head with a bucket of wallboard compound. She comes to with an amazing new ability. She can see ghosts. Two live in her home, a distinguished private investigator, Paul, and a saucy and misbehaving home decorator, Maxie. Alison makes a deal with her ghosts - she will help Paul with his private investigations if he and Maxie help her put on ghostly shows to keep a steady flow of guests for her inn. The novels traverse the lives of Alison, her daughter, mother, ghosts, and assorted quirky friends, like the local police chief and newspaper owner. Murders are solved, missing persons are found, and occasional mayhem ensues. The series, at this time, consists of 8 full-length novels and two shorts. More to come, no doubt!

Liked. Delightful listening. Sarcastic and funny lead character, excellent character development, a creative plot line for each book, no sex, no objectionable language.

Not so hot. A bit slow for my taste - not criticism, rather a preference.

Written by E.J. Copperman, narrated by Amanda Ronconi, Audible originals, first story released in 2013. Each novel is 8-10 hours of listening.

Recommended - nothing profound, simply fun reading.
