It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore.

After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent - when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes. His other goal: to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago, now a high-profile lieutenant in the NYPSD and married to one of the city’s richest men.

Commanding Eve’s attention with a chilling and brazen crime, McQueen sets off the chase - forcing Eve down a road marked with blood and tears, a road that eventually leads southwest to Dallas, Texas, the home Eve fled long ago. And each new twist brings her closer to the harrowing memory of when she wasn’t a hardened detective but a vulnerable girl just like McQueen’s innocent prey. As her husband, Roarke, tries to rescue her from the nightmares that claw at her mind, and her partner, Peabody, doggedly works to support her, Eve must confront - and call upon - the darkest parts of her own soul in order to survive.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Fanstastic Performance for a Fantastic Read

Susan Ericksen really embraces the In Death world with her narration. It's exciting and leaves readers feeling emotional: happy, sad, empathetic, etc. Nora Roberts does it again with New York to Dallas. It's the most emotionally driven one and it about broke my heart a few times to hear what Eve and Roarke were going through.

Ok. Held my attention.

Book was ok. Some romance but not so much that I put the book down. Story line was suspenseful. Reader really bothered me in another book with voice used for character Peabody but didn’t bother me in this book.

Great story!

Summer 2060 in NYC and a psychopath Eve Dallas put away as a young uniformed cop has broken out of prison and is back to his old tricks. When the trail leads from NYC to Dallas, Tx, Eve and Roarke have to go there- the the place Eve dreams about. The killer has kidnapped one of the women who Eve had freed when freed, in order to lure Eve into his grasp. The killer wants revenge for the years he spent in prison. A pedophile, the criminal always recruits a female accomplice and to Eve’s shock she recognizes her. As the Dallas PD, the FBI and Eve track him down the personal aspects of the story start getting to Eve. Luckily Roarke, her touchstone, is there to steady her. The story has a good ending and narration was excellent!

One of the best in the series

Great to get into Eve's history a bit! Nice to have a book that's a bit outside the usual structure of an In Death story.

One name "Roarke"!

The first time I experienced this series was when I purchased "Naked In Death" It just seemed interesting and since it was the first one I figured if I did not like it, I would just not buy any other books. When I heard Susan do Roarke for the first time, that was it for me. I love this character! He is sexy, cool, loving, loyal, and hopelessly in love with Eve. Kudos to Susan for the brilliant job she does with all the character voices, but especially for the way she manages to bring all of Roarke's emotions and feelings for Eve alive and while holding on to that sexy Irish accent.

This is a winner- both story and narration

Would you consider the audio edition of New York to Dallas to be better than the print version?

I think the audio edition enhances the story. As we all know, sometimes that isn't the case. This is a fabulous story and the narrator is superb. Her change of voices makes it clear who's speaking and the emotion comes through. If you want to not be disappointed in an audio book, this one is for you!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eve Dallas, of course.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The characters leapt off the page and into my ear.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish I could have listened to it all in one sitting. But I didn't have that much time...so listening to it was my reward each time I finished my must-be-done chores.
