Grainy CCTV footage shows a man walking into a bank and putting a gun to a cashier's head. He tells her to count to twenty-five. When he doesn’t get his money in time, she is executed. Detective Harry Hole is assigned to the case. While Harry’s girlfriend is away in Russia, an old flame gets in touch. He goes to dinner at her house and wakes up at home with no memory of the past twelve hours. The same morning the girl is found shot dead in her bed. Then Harry begins to receive threatening e-mails. Is someone trying to frame him for this unexplained death?
Meanwhile the bank robberies continue with unparalleled savagery. Gripping and surprising, Nemesis is a thriller by one of the biggest stars of Scandinavian crime fiction.

I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
In the tradition of the great European crime novels like "The Laughing Policeman", "Smilla's Sense of Snow" and Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther series, Nesbo continues with his Harry Hole novels in this terrific new entry.
Hole, struggling with his alcoholism as well as his new love relationship and the death of his partner, finds himself caught up in trying to solve a murderous bank robbery while trying to convince his superiors that his partner's death is - contrary to their belief - still unsolved and that he should be allowed to pursue an investigation into it.
This is a compelling entry in the series, with rich characterizations and impeccable plotting.
Eclectic mixer of books of my youth and ones I always meant to read, but didn't.
Book 4 is the best Harry Hole story to date. Again I have had to deliberately restrain myself from reading Book 5 at once. That has to be a good sign. The plot is a continuation of Book 3 (The Redbreast), but not just an episode from a TV drama that begins, "Last time on ...". The new story is a complex one. The plot is carefully crafted. Harry, apparently happy, just can't resist an old flame and from there the set up begins.
The clues are all there. I'd think I'd figured it out, then, blam, suspect dead. I'd think I'd figured it out, then dismiss it and think again. Somewhere along this process, I did figure it out, but I wasn't sure until Harry revealed the truth.
Harry is the harbinger of the truth. He's as unlikely a harbinger as any, but this far into our relationship, he's now a comfortable part of the big picture. A new character is introduced, too; another unfortunate woman in Harry's seedy life. Tom Voller (aka David Hasselhoff) returns, as do Mueller and the rest of the team. There is new and old.
Sean Barrett continues his portrayal of Harry. He is growing on me. By Book 5 I expect him to be a 3.5 and by Book 6, a 4. There are no complaints.
One warning, these books are addictive!
Complex, engaging, enjoyable
Headhunters because its a complex story that brings the reader along slowly and confidently
"Your worst 'best friend'."
You absolutely know that Harry will come through for you but along the way he will take you on a roller coaster ride of mistakes, bad judgement, wrong turns and the odd bender. This all makes for a riveting read and you find yourself doing the literary equivalent of shouting at the television! Harry......what are you doing? Harry Hole is one of the most interesting characters I have met (read). In real life you would wonder how he gets by and yet Jo Nesbo writes in such a way that he is so 'real' you think perhaps you are missing something and that maybe this is the way to be. As a hero he has many faults but you cannot help but admire the inner voice that somehow keeps him on the straight and narrow. The story is deftly paced, building twists and turns into the plot with effortless ease. I find myself waiting for the next story and dare I say it the inevitable screenplay. Now there's a question - who would you want to play Harry?
Jo Nesbo my favourite writer,
i read many in his series on policeman Hary Holey in OSLO.
i really enjoy the audio books at 10pm when in bed

i highly recommend the book. the writer nesbo is top dog 4 me
This is the third book of the Harry Hole series I've read in as many weeks, and I enjoyed it just as much as the others. This is a little more conventional than The Redbreast but still a cracking psychological thriller that weaves together the strands of two different investigations that prove to be related. Jo Nesbø has a real talent for complex plots that keep you guessing all the way, only to be surprised you didn't join the dots earlier when the reveal happens. Looking forward to the conclusion of the Oslo Trilogy and fifth in the Harry series now - The Devil's Star.
"Thrilled by Nemesis"
Great book, very well written and very well narrated. Interesting, unpredictable and as usual an excellent Jo Nesbo book.
such a good book, but the reader gets the accents mixed up, the indian in the book sounds like some drunk from yorkshire, but the actual book is awesome
"Suspense to the end"
Another great Harry Hike novel. You have to keep your wits about you to keep up. Very enjoyable
"typical Jo Nesbø"
good story, fantastic narration. I plan on continuing the series, although I do wonder how long Harry Hole will last, he is almost killed in each book!
Enjoyed such a good read, but the story must catch up with the underlying villain. Brilliant method of keeping me hanging on, need to go to the next episode - thanks
"Love Jo Nesbo!"
Yet another great outing for Harry Hole, who somehow manages to be a better detective than all the rest, despite his many problems! Sean Barrett is, as usual, perfect!
"Another superbly written (and read) Harry Hole"
Harry Hole is now my firm favourite 'troubled' hero and Jo Nesbo remains one of the best authors of his generation. He has the ability to make you seem as though you a fly on the wall at all times. He must also be one of Norway's best PR men as I really want to visit Oslo ASAP (despite his portrayal of the high murder rate). Absolutely excellent in every way. You will love this book!
