THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING IN DEATH SERIES

It is 2058, New York City. Technology now completely rules the world, but for New York Detective Eve Dallas, one irresistible impulse still rules the heart: passion...

Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she’s seen it all - and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she’s going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and a suspect in Eve’s murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it’s up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Very pleasantly surprised.

Having read most of her non-crime novels, I was wary of starting this series, not sure how good they'd be. I'm relieved to find this was very good, I was immediately annoyed when it was finished as I don't have the next one. a very good sign.

The reader is excellent and I'm pleased to see she reads the rest of the series.

If I have one criticism, the sex scenes with Roark are too explicit. It really wasn't necessary to that extent and I ended up fast forwarding some of those bits. I felt the sex related to the murders seemed more balanced, she just went overboard with the romance sex scenes. Which is weird because the romance sections and relationship were very good and believable.

I like the characters, the murders are interesting, and I liked the slight futuristic setting which makes this fresh. looking forward to the next one.

Great thriller

Enjoyed the plot development and turns in the book. Enjoyed how Randall whittled through Gracie's thick wall of protection to fall in love.

first in the middle

Even though I've read several of her other books I hadn't read this one first it was kind of interesting to go back and find out the story of Rorke and her. I enjoyed the storyline as well as as the twists and turns.

I hope the series gets a lot better

So many folks love this series and obviously they sell week enough for so many to be published, but I found this one very dated in 2022. Al least 50% of the story was a straight-up romance novel. The remaining part very obvious and not a very engaging police procedural. I’ll try one more, but does it get much better?

The Performance Was Amazing!

This book was very entertaining. It gave an interesting look into the future of law enforcement and forensics. It’s a good read for those who like romance and mystery combined.
Susan Eriksen’s performance was fantastic and truly brought the characters to life.

Intense

Intense and gripping. The kind of book that you just can’t put down. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.

Not that great

Between the unnecessary sex scenes and the bad Irish and NYC accents I was more than tempted to drop this book for anything else, but the only thing holding this together was wanting to know whodunnit. THAT was well worth suffering through all the rest. I've read other reviews that say this is the worst of the series so I may give Book 2 a chance at some point. Hopefully the accents will have been corrected, if nothing else. Me born and raised in NYC, hubby born and raised in Dublin. I know how these accents should sound, so that doing it wrong is incredibly distracting and grating. If Book 2 sounds just as bad, maybe I'll move on to the actual book.
