In a lethal confluence of sex, drugs and the murder of young beauty school entrepreneurs in the wealthy beach community of La Jolla, California, San Diego police detective Ken Goode confronts his own demons while leading a homicide investigation that puts him into the line of fire of a drug ring and an escort service. Trying to prove he is worthy of a transfer to homicide, the handsome Camus-reading narcotics detective tangles with an attractive seductive witness as he battles worries that his missing sister will be the next murder victim.

Welcome to our group Dakota; welcome to my life Summer, you've made it so much better. Give back to our wounded warriors who gave so much.
This really was a bizarre story; filled with far too many not very likable individuals and perpetual rationalizations by everyone including the main character. Much of the mystery portion of this work is well done and when the killer is revealed it came as a real surprise. Warning; if you have the tendency to depress easily this one isn't for you. All the characters have some major flaw of some sort and all of them seem to lead rather bleak lives. I'm not sure whether this book is good or not but it's probably worth a shot.
