NOW, I like Cyrus

This is the book that changed my mind about Cyrus. Didn't like him when he arrived on Safari but, in this one, I was finally convinced he loved our Emily and didn't just want to control her.

More unpredictable than the rest

Many of the reviews of this book in the Mrs. Pollifax series complain about the darker tone of the book. It’s true, this story is probably more realistic than the others that precede it. That’s not a bad thing. It does, however, mean that it is less lighthearted and predictable than most of the other books in the series. I didn’t dislike it, in fact I quite enjoyed it, but I can see how if someone who had not read the reviews they would be surprised by a Mrs. Pollifax book that includes torture and murder. Given the popularity of this series during the time it was written, I have to wonder if Dorothy Gilman wasn’t trying to make working for the CIA more realistic and less sweet and grandmotherly. I like that this book shows that Mrs. Pollifax was undergoing real risks.

I love the vivid word pictures and Barbra Rosenblat brings them to life in my imagination!!

I have red and listened to Dorothy Gilman’s books over and over for years! No one reads like Ms. Rosenblat and after hearing the entire series read by her, all other narrators are intolerable (even if they are amazing narrators) because Ms. Rosenblat IS Mrs. Polifax and makes the characters come to life!! I waited to purchase some of the books in the series because Audible had other narrators reading the books. Now I have the entire series with Ms. Rosenblat reading and I am listening to each one, in order, all over again! These are great stories and vividly read!

My go to for long drives, quiet time before bed and while doing the dishes! Mrs. Polifax makes the boring things less mundane and they fly by!

Nice human sophisticated tale

The narrator is. Exquisite! She moves from one character to another smoothly and beautifully. It’s good to have an elderly supposedly plain woman as the main heroine in an envious full of men

Definitely a darker Mrs Pollifax story

What made the experience of listening to Mrs. Pollifax and the Hong Kong Buddha the most enjoyable?

I always enjoy Barbara Rosenblat's narration. Even though the last few chapters of this book were a bit too realistic and violent for me, I did enjoy the book. Especially the return of favorite characters from previous books.

Would you recommend Mrs. Pollifax and the Hong Kong Buddha to your friends? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this particular book to anyone that does not like dark or violent images. Mrs Pollifax does get tortured at the end of this book and for that reason I would not listen to this book again.

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

She reads the voice of Mrs. Pollifax perfectly. I cannot imagine anyone else narrating this series.

She did it again !!

This is such a fun series it is clean and full of fun. The situations that you find the main character in are quite entertaining and if you like an elderly widow that turns into a spy and all the adventures that she goes on you will enjoy this book, this is very entertaining and fun and I hope you enjoy this book as much as me and my husband have.

Terrific

Fast paced, intelligent a pleasure to read. Perfect for a vacation or a day at the beach. Love the way the locations fit into all of the Mrs. Pollifax books.

Magic? What?

I was a little put off by the attitude towards psychics in this book. There is a psychic character, and everybody just believes 100% in his magical gifts without challenge. It doesn't really fit into a world that otherwise follows the natural order of things, albeit outrageously so.
