Publisher's summary

Adrian Monk has journeyed into the realm of the cult science-fiction show Beyond Earth, where he meets fans just as obsessive-compulsive as he is. Monk is at their convention because there may be a killer lurking in the Beyond Earth community: someone in a starship uniform has very publicly gunned down the show's legendary creator, Conrad Stipe. Could a fan be that furious at him for selling out to an exploitative Hollywood producer? Or is there more going on behind the scenes in Stipe's life?

Who changed the channel when its getting good!?

What made the experience of listening to Mr. Monk in Outer Space the most enjoyable?

I have always been a fan of the Monk TV series and continuing books. This story follows Monk like you would expect. One thing is that it goes into a more complicated plot than a TV series would have allowed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mr. Monk in Outer Space?

Mr. Monk attend the Sci-Fi convention is classic. I also enjoyed revisiting the Monk brothers relationship.

What three words best describe Angela Brazil’s voice?

Clear, Sweet, Comfortable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The universe is going to get a serious cleaning.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book but was very confused by the conclusion. At the height of the action at the conclusion, there seems to be a good 5 minutes missing from the story. There is a jump cut of Mr. Monk and Natalie at the security desk getting a look at the killer to Mr. Monk sweeping up glass and Natalie's car spontaneously moving from the street where it's parked to inside a building somewhere. I had to look up the book on Wikipedia just to figure out what happened. I wonder if anyone else's recording was similarly flawed. This is the single reason why I only gave the performance 3 stars. I would have rated it higher otherwise.

Good Overall

Liked the book. The overall story was good. HOWEVER Lee Goldberg’s writing seems to be “fat-phobic.” I do not like that and it turns me off to the rest of his books.

Too much filler

As other reviewers noted, part of the story near the end is left out. Other than that, I have two chief complaints: 1) There's WAY too much time taken up by Natalie's constant musings over things like her situation in life and what makes Monk the way he is . 2) Compared with the TV show, Monk is just too annoying in the book. His character annoys people in the TV show, but there is almost always a degree of humor in it. Few instances of Monk's being annoying in the book are amusing.

Audio is missing a page or two.

Any additional comments?

CHAPTER 29. At the climax of the book, there are pages of text that were missed being read! I'm disappointed that the producers allowed for this error to be released.

The very end when they solve the mystery and arrest the perp is some of the information.

YucK...

If you love the TV series, this book is a tremendous disappointment. None of the charm survives the heavy handed writing. Cliche after cliche...sloppy plotting. Monk is made into a silly character. No charm. No magic. Stupid mystery. I am glad I got it for $5. But that's still $4.99 more than it's worth.

Horrible waste of time.

Another great Monk Book

Mr. Monk in Outer Space follows the same familiar light hearted formula used in the other Monk books. The author does a great job of staying true to the television characters.
The narrator is excellent and enjoyable to listen to. Thus far Angela Brazil is the best narrator for the Monk series.
I hope more Monk books will follow.
In conclusion, if you are a fan of Monk or looking for a light and fluffy mystery - you'll like this.

Monk stories are great!

Funny, quirky, well thought out tales that are just like the tv series. Light crime stories.

Monkey Business!

Monk once again ambles through many murders, each of which he of course solves instantly.

Angela Brazil's narration is perfect.

Great book but predictable

In the last Monk Book, Monk talks about how easy it is to find the killer in an authors book. But the Monk Books are also in a easy to tell way, the book starts with something happening that effects Monk or where he is staying, then he is called in on one case solves it, sees two or more other crime scenes, decides they are connected, the Captain always says that it is “the first time Monk is wrong in a murder”, and then finally Monk finds one more piece of evidence or has a hunch and solves the connected cases.
